| Hazzard County Redskins Team History | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| How it all started....... | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Hazzard County Redskins were officially established in the spring of 2002 as a way for a group of ex-baseball players to continue competing for cheap plastic trophies. The name Hazzard County Redskins was created within the cafeteria of William Henry Harrison High School. The Founding Fathers were big fans of the television show "The Dukes of Hazzard" which took place in the fictional location of Hazzard County, Georgia and the Redskins part came from the former mascot of Miami University where 3 of the 4 founding fathers would attend college. When the name Hazzard County Redskins was thrown on the table, it was immediately accepted by all involved. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Season 1 - 2002 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| In their Inagural season of 2002, the Redskins got their first taste of softball. They learned that this certainly was not the baseball game they were used to...finding it hard to swallow defeats to drunken slob hillbillies who had played the game for the past 20 years. They had a tough season as many expansion softball franchises do, but they found players who they could one day build a dynasty around. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Season 2 - 2003 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| A few position swaps and roster additions helped the 'skins get off to a blistering start. The Redskins faded as many key players were lost for various reasons, from car accidents to college to religious missions to military leaves etc. The core remained in tact and the Redskins found that they'd have to make the hard decision to extract dead weight and reload if they were going to make a run for the E-league pennant. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Season 3 - 2004 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Redskins underwent a remarkable roster make over, adding the likes of Dan Blake, John Guy, Nick Weil, and Travis McCormick as well as joining forces with former foe Team Fliehman adding Adam Benson and Jamie Fliehman. The mixture of Roughnecks, Miami Students and Bernie-Ballers co-existed to challenge for the Pastime Park Thursday Night pennant, but came up just short, finishing second in the Spring Season (7-3). The Summer Season became a repeat of the 2003 Summer as players dropped left and right, leading to a disappointing 10-10 overall record for the year. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Season 4 - 2005 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This season was anticipated to be the year the Redskins would bring home the Pastime Park trophy and shirts. The roster was once again shuffled, this time for financial reasons. Added to the roster this season were newcomers Nick Payne, Matt Crone, and Todd Peak. As well as Bernie-Baller deluxe, Andy Robben. In a late and desperate roster move, Marcus Herald was added to the pitching staff. The Redskins were hit hard losing one of their best players, Andy Inman, as a result of Friday morning math tests he claimed he always had to study for. At the midpoint of the season the Redskins sat at 5-2 in a tie for first place. But players once again became scarce and the Redskins went on a losing skid finishing the season 5-5. Without players to contend, the Redskins pulled out of the Summer Season, marking the second year in a row at the .500 mark. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Season 5 - 2006 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This season was the breakthrough season for Hazzard County. After struggling to even survive in 2005 the founding fathers had to completely rebuild the team again. Andy Inman, Kyle King, Jason Dean, Joe Broering, Chris Petit, and Dan Butcher were added to the roster providing solid defense and hitting. Hazzard County took their first championship in the Spring with an amazing comeback victory against MSW Packaging for a tie and then a tie-breaking win. The Redskins started the Summer with a 4-0 streak then lost 3 straight due to a lack of players once again. However, they rallied to win the tournament title to once again earn shirts and another trophy. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Season 6 - 2007 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This Season Hazzard County was bumped up to the upper leagues at Pastime Park. After getting off to a slow start and struggling through the spring at a record around .500, Hazzard contended for League Titles and brought home a Tournament Title. Also was the first season to play two nights a week. Pickups included Chuck Lack, Jared Tucker, Rob Deller, Russ Rybolt, Corey Mitchell, Tyler Trentman. Fall Ball squad came up a game short of a title and came away as runners-up. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
