Rodgers sighed. She explained how she had been deceived by the smoking man into believing that Mulder and Scully were the enemies, how smoking man had changed her mind when he killed the baby & how she had gone to the Pentagon & found out everything.
�What exactly did you find out about my son? Is he normal?�
�Agent Scully, you should know that yourself. You�ve seen him do things that no normal child could do.�
�Is he alien?�
�Sort of. He�s not the result of alien testing as you might suspect. When you went to Dr Perentie for in vitro fertilisation, he tried to impregnate you with an alien zygote. But your body rejected it due to the vaccine you were given four years ago. But the presence of a zygote in your system, it is theorised, must have triggered the release of more ova; Ova which carry a recessive gene mutated by the vaccine. Everyone who has been injected with the vaccine is immune to the alien virus and produces sex cells which have this mutated gene. Among them is Fox Mulder, who was injected with the vaccine five years ago in Tunguska, Russia-�
�So what exactly does the recessive gene do to him?� Scully interrupted, impatiently.
�I don�t know. And neither do the aliens, it�s never happened before. That�s why they wanted to see you give birth. When they saw that it had normal human physiology, they left. But then they found out, through someone who was assigned to keep tabs on you, that William was displaying abilities that were definitely not humanistic. They were afraid of what he might become, so they attempted to have him killed-�
�But he�s normal now. He was injected with something that made him normal.�

�I�m surprised you can ask me that. Surely you know that these people have ways of finding out anything?�
Scully buried her head in her hands. She had wanted her son to have a normal life, but instead she may have sentenced him to death. Mulder took Scully�s hand. �We�ll find him� he assured her. As she�d told him before, he couldn�t give up. He turned to Rodgers �what�s the smoking man�s involvement in all of this?�
�I�m not exactly sure,� Rodgers told Mulder �but for whatever reason, he wants alien colonisation too. I think he just despises you; wants to break you and make you give up hope. But I�m not sure why.�
Scully took a deep breath �So, talking to the Van De Kamp�s other neighbours, is that still the plan?�
