�The case that agents Lloyd and Thompson were working on� Reyes said, remembering why the information was familiar �You means the Van De Kamp boy is William? Your William?�
�Yeah� Scully replied, growing hopeful �This is a case? Do they have any leads? Any idea where he could be?�
�No, none. The case seems to have everyone baffled. Especially since the only witness claims that Mr and Mrs Van De Kamp were killed by a monster�
�Not a monster� Mulder interrupted, �a super soldier. I had a little chat with Mrs Wilkes�
Then Scully had an idea. �Maybe we should check with the other neighbours. Maybe one of them saw where he went�
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Rodgers stood at the front door of agent Doggett�s apartment. She had seen Dana Scully and Fox Mulder accompany him there and she hoped that they would believe what she had to say to them. It would be their problem, she told herself, if they didn�t believe her. If they didn�t let her help them. She would have done all that she could. Besides, it was not her fault that they were in this situation; she hadn�t kidnapped their son. But it would be her fault if Scully didn�t trust her. Rodgers wouldn�t be surprised, either. And that would prevent them from learning the truth about their son, which would also be her fault. She pushed the thought from her mind. She hadn�t known. It was the smoking man�s fault. He had lied to her; deceived her into thinking that what she was doing was for the good of the planet. That the aliens had come to help and teach mankind and that Fox Mulder was trying to prevent that. But the smoking man had shown his true colours when he had killed that baby, for what man working to help mankind would sacrifice an innocent baby to break his enemy? Rodgers had not known what the smoking man�s intentions had been at first, so she had carried out her part of the plan. She held Dana Scully down to be anaesthetised while she tried to locate and kill Fox Mulder. But before that, she had decided to do a little research. The smoking man had given her a security pass when he first told her to find Mulder, telling her that, among other places, he may be there at the Pentagon. She had been told that Fox Mulder wanted to know about the aliens in order to stop them from helping mankind, and that he thought he would find answers there. So, wanting answers herself, Rodgers searched through files at the pentagon. What she had discovered was that the aliens were actually trying to colonise Earth. She realised that it was Scully and Mulder who were trying to help mankind, and that their son William was everyone�s only hope. So she took Dana Scully to the hospital and sent Agent Doggett the letter, knowing that he was a friend and former colleague of hers, and also that Fox Mulder was not one to readily trust just anyone. And then she confronted the smoking man about this, and about the baby, and had learned that the man she had been trying to help was really the most evil person she had ever met. Now she stood at Agent Doggett�s front door with information about William that Mulder and Scully might appreciate� if they believed and trusted her.
Doggett opened the door and was met with an unfamiliar face
�Can I help you?� he asked
�I sent you that letter about Scully. I have information about her son William and I want to help.� Doggett hesitantly let her in and showed her into the lounge room where Reyes, Scully and Mulder were sitting. He had not anticipated Scully�s reaction to this woman.
�You! What the hell are you doing here?!� Scully shot up out of her seat and, out of habit, reached for her gun; but she was unarmed �Damn it! Where�s my gun?!� seeing everyone�s puzzled expressions, she explained �That�s Elizabeth Rodgers! She�s working for the smoking man!�
�Agent Scully,� Rodgers interrupted �I know you have no reason to believe me, but I have information about William, and I want to help you�
�Where is he?!� Scully asked
�I don�t know where he is, but I know what he is and why the aliens want him.�
Scully narrowed her eyes and sat down. Perhaps what this woman said would reveal where William was.
