�No. It was a woman with blonde hair.� Scully thought for a moment. �What was her name...? Something Rodgers. Why?�
�I spoke with the Van De Kamps� neighbour, the one who called the police and the tabloid. She saw most of what happened, and what she described sounded like it was a super soldier-�
Scully finished Mulder's sentence, the same thoughts going through her own mind. �And why would a super soldier kidnap William only to give him to the smoking man, if they�re not working together?�
�Scully, are you sure it was William?�
�I didn�t really get a good look, I only assumed�� she trailed off as a look or realization crossed her face.
By the time they all arrived at the morgue, Doggett and Reyes were still confused
�So what exactly is going on here?� Doggett asked
�I wish I knew� Mulder replied
�And who�s smoking man?� Reyes added
�Someone you do not want to know� Scully said, pulling out the tray. The nurse had told her which one her son was on. Hopefully, she would be wrong. Scully looked at the body.
�It�s not him� she said, relieved. But they had to be sure. She took a blood sample from the baby and ran it through the computer.
�I still don�t get it� Doggett said �I mean, if you told this guy where Mulder was, then why kill the baby?�
�To break Mulder.� The smoking man explained to Rodgers. �if you could not kill Mulder; if, perhaps, he was not in any of the locations that Scully said he would be, he would certainly go looking for her. She would tell Mulder the unfortunate news and that knowledge would break him; force him to give up.�
�And that�s how far you�d go to stop Mulder? Killing an innocent child?� Rodgers sighed �I�m on the wrong side.�
�The wrong side?� smoking man sneered �This isn�t a game; it�s a fight for survival�
�Mulder's the one who�s fighting here. He�s trying to save humanity, and you�re just trying to stop him. Why? How is that beneficial to you? You�re a part of humanity.�

Smoking man realised that he had revealed too much information. �Believe what you want. You can try to help Mulder, if you think it�ll make a difference�
