| The RAFS-AA has been sending diving expeditions to Belize for many years now, usually twice per annum depending on slots available at the British Forces Adventure Training Center (BFATC) on St Georges Caye. | Since late 2000 RAFS-AA expeditions have been studying the effect that Hurricanes Mitch and Keith had on the Belizean barrier reef. Mitch struck in October 1998, although not directly hitting Belize it's 150+ mph winds devestated the neighbouring country of Honduras. Keith was a direct hit on Belize and lingered above Ambergris Caye for 12 hours, never moving more than half a mile either way with winds gusting up to 155mph. Expeditions such as Ex Mayan Finn and Caye Challenge have worked along side the Coral Caye Conservation Project, mainly assessing and updating the recovery of the reef system. This year, along with on-going inspections of the corals, Ex Mayan Reef will be starting a new project in association with the Reef Environmental Education Foundation .
