| The best advice my nutritionist gave me was to eat healthy and workout at least 3 times a week. However, children need more exercise and should be prompted to engage in physical activity at least 4 to 5 days a week for at least an hour each day. Children can be taken to the park, or should be enrolled in sports that practice frequently throughout the week. Parents should serve as role models by cooking with less cooking oil, serving leaner meats (more chicken breast and fish), and expecially more fruits and vegetables. The best tip I got from my nutritionist was to familiarize myself with the nutrition labels and watch my portions. A piece of meat the size of a deck of cards is proportional to one serving. A full plate of pasta, similar to the a plate served at the Olive Garden, is equivalent to three servings of pasta. Children are prone to imitate what the parents do and if the parents engage in physical activity the children will too. We must change ourselves and our couch potatoe ways before we can help our children fight obesity. And as a society we must teach our children that eating healthy is the best way to secure a healthy life and avoid future health problems.. |
