Ancient Mythiology

Ancient Greeks were fabuluos storytellers. Their myths, a ward that originally meant any story-have entertained listeners for thousands of years. The Greekds told stories of gods, monsters, and heroes to make sense of their past and the world they lived in. Every important Greek city had its own mythical heores, such as Bellerephon in Corinth, and Theseus in Athens. Their deeds were told as lessons to inspire noble behavior. Myths were also used to explain events in nature, such as thunderstorms or the daily movement of the sun across the sky. Aove all, the Greek loved a good myth, retold in a poem or play, for its wonderful entertainment.

The top of Mount Olympus, Greece's tallest mountain, was said to be the home of Zeus and 11 other famous gods. They were called the Olympian gods. From their palaces high above the clouds, they looked down on the lives of men and women. The gods took an interest in human affairs, often helping their favorite heroes.
