Olympic
Park Night Outing - mid 2000
|
| |
|
Many
things at Olympic Park are functional, some look good as well. This
fountain just West of the Superdome isn't functional but sure looks
interesting. It proved to be a bit of a focus for club members,
particularly those who waited from 2:30 PM for everybody to turn
up.
Olympic Park is located next to the Parramatta River, and is surrounded
by wetlands. The fountain is located on the edge of one of the many
streams that run through the area.

The
fountain consists of about three rows of these...... well....water
squirting cones. The top two were mounted on cut stone tiers, the
lower row, pictured to the left, is located in a pool area. I wonder
how many people will use it as a wading pool during the games!!
Plenty will be my guess, even if September is not a hot month.
During
our visit a couple of kids had some fun under the rock tier cascades.
I took a couple of shots, but they are pretty ordinary.
Unfortunately
I didn't get a shot of the whole thing - just bits that looked interesting
in the viewfinder.

There
seemed to be plenty of pattern type photo's about, like the one
on the right, with similar ones on the pool cones.
The
trick was to pick a time when there wasn't someone stooging around
the cones - they are big enough to walk about......

The
sun started to set.... an amber filter was added for this shot (below)
towards the wetlands and observation mound.

A
bit of a climb over some rocks was necessary to bet a different view of
the bottom (pool) level cones seen below. The sun was long gone by this
stage. This shot is taken from below a walkway, which unfortunately gets
in the way of shots taken from the other side of the fountain. The little
hill in the background is an observation mound.

| Just before
this shot was taken a few of us shot over to the ferry wharf at the Parramatta
River. The ferries will form part of the Olympic transport solution during
the games. If you want to see these pics click here. |
