Olympic
Park Night Outing - mid 2000
|
|
The
sun was gone by the time we got to the Ferry Wharf. Didn't see to much
to excite down there, but I have since noticed Nic (Club Pres) has some
much better shots with the Rivercat at the wharf just before the sun set.

The pic above shows a pensive John looking out at the mangrove lined Parramatta River. A couple of power pylons are seen in the background. These were the subject of much attention when the Homebush site was first considered - as they would not make good TV shots for the rest of the world to see. As a result some of the lines closer to Olympic Park were put underground. The pic below shows club members at the Ferry/Bus interchange. |

I think everybody enjoyed their trip to Homebush Park, there were indeed plenty of things to photograph. The only downside to the outing was the parking arrangements. Everyone was faced with the decision of paying the exorbident parking rates, or facing the ever dilligent parking inspectors constantly on patrol throughout the day and night. I suspect the Olympic Minister's decision to run the games himself has led to a lot of inefficiencies, and they are now running at a big loss and hungry for money. The message with the parking fees and gestapo-like policing of the parking seems to be that locals are not really welcome at Olympic Park. Consiquently many of us were thinking as much about where there car was parked as to taking photo's. My decision to park in an empty office block car park (on a Saturday night) was rewarded with a $114 fine for parking in an "unauthorised area". Good on you Micheal Knight, you've done us proud. You have shown us with your actions and management style just how to abuse power, and that if you throw enough money at something it will work. I'm just a bit cheesed of that I have payed a little more for the Olympics than the majority of other NSW taxpayers! |
