Stephen Carrithers and Jean, his wife, sold their home to James Beard in 1825 and moved to Indiana
They used the spelling Carrithers and Carrothers both. Mrs.
?yier (Mary Carrithers) Carpenter told me they moved to Vige?
County, Indiana.

In a Roster of Captain Robert Thurston's Company of Militia, Thirteenth Kentucky-Presley Gray Colonel - is the name of Stephen Carothers. This Roster is now the property of Mr. Thurston of
Shelby County, Kentucky

Above information furnished to Virgil E. Carrithers in a July 15, 1977 letter from Mrs. R. S. (Alice) McElroy, 404 W. Walnut St., Princeton, Ind., 47670, who also sent him pictures of
the stone of Jane and some of other Carrithers stones. Her. picture of Stephen's stone did not turn out well and he has not received on as of March 10, 1979.

This indenture made and entered into this the third day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and four, between James L. Henderson and Elizabeth, his wife, of the county of Shelby and State of Kentucky, of the firs part and STEPHEN CARRITHERS of the County of Shelby and State aforesaid, of the other part, Witnesseth:-the said James L. Henderson and Elizabeth, his wife, for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds to them in hand paid by the said STEPHEN CARRITHERS, the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents we grant, bargain and sell unto the said STEPHEN CARRITHERS, a certain tract of land, containing fifty-four acres, lying and being in the county and state aforesaid on the waters of PLUM CREEK and bounded as followeth: To wit, Beginning at a large beech tree, corner to James Carrithers running thence North 12 East 72 poles to three beeches, thence North 78 West 114 poles to a buckeye and
ash, thence South 12 West 80 poles to a beech, dogwood and sugar tree, thence South 78 East 116 poles to the Beginning. Also another tract of one hundred acres lying and being in the county
and on the waters aforesaid. Beginning at a hickory, red oak and crab tree in the division line between James L. Henderson line running South with said line 15 degrees West 138 poles to a
dogwood, sugar tree and beech in said line, thence North 75 degrees West 116 poles to an ironwood and two sugartrees in the lower line, then with said line North 15 degrees East 138 poles to three sycamores on the west bank of Plum Creek, thence South 75 degrees East to the beginning and the said Carrithers to have and to hold the said tract or all the above land except about seven acres lying at the beginning of the last mentioned tract a Hickory, red oak and crab tree in Peter Kinder's line running thence South 15 degrees West to the first branch about 20 poles, thence down the branch to Plum creek to exclude all the land on the North side of said branch and he the said James L. Henderson and Elizabeth, his wife, for themselves their heirs and assigns to the said Stephen Carrithers, his heirs and do forever warrant and defend the said tract or parcel of land against themselves, their heirs and every other person whatsoever. In testimony whereof the said James L. Henderson and Elizabeth, his wife have set their hands and seals the day and year first mentioned.

Shelby County, Kentucky Order Book 1810.

John Stillwell and others being by a former order of this
Court appointed viewers to view a road from Elk Creek
Meetinghouse to the widow Seaton's, made this report from when it
appears that the road as proposed will run through the land of
Robert Lastly, deceased, Ab. Pittinger, Reuben Smith, Caleb Reid,
Meredith Webb, Stephen Carrithers, John Stillwelll, Elmendroff,
Robert Gilliland-whereof it is ordered that summons so issue
against the proprietors aforesaid or their agents to appear at
the next Court and show cause why the road proposed should not be
established agreeably to the report filed.

Ordered that Stephen Carrithers be appointed Overseer of
that part of the road from Frankfort to Shepherdsville which lies
between Peter Stout's and the Bullitt line and so? the hand-??-??
Beginning at Stephen Carrither's thence to Joshua Napp's (Knapp?)
Down Plum Creek to the Bullitt line and with the same to John
Lucas', thence to David McKinley, thence to the beginning ---be
allotted him for keeping the same in repair.

This Indenture made this the 27th day of August, 1823
between Stephen Carrithers and Jean, his wife, of the County of
Shelby and State of Kentucky, of the one part, and James Beard of
the same County and State of the other part - Witnesseth:- that
the said Stephen Carrithers for and in consideration of the sum
of one dollar to him in hand paid, hath bargained and sold and by
these presents doth sell, alien and convey to the said James
Beard, his heirs and assigns, forever all that parcel or tract of
land whereon he the said Stephen Carrithers now lives in the
County aforesaid in BIG PLUM CREEK bounded as follows-vis-
Beginning at a honey Locust and white oak in Morrises South-East
corner, thence South 15 degrees west 114 poles to a beech,
dogwood and sugar tree, thence North 81 degrees West 129 poles
to a honey locust and white oak, thence North 15 degrees East 138
poles to two sycamores on said creek, thence South 81 degrees
East 129 poles to a blue ash and two sugar trees in Morrises
South West corner, thence to a mulberry stump and water beech 87
poles from Sycamores on said creek, thence to the beginning 44
poles ---containing by survey One hundred and four acres, be the
same more or less, with its appurtenances to have and to hold the
said tract of land with the appurtenances to the said James
Beard, his heirs and assigns hereby covenant with the said James
Beard, his heirs do warrant the title to said land to said James
Beard, his heirs to against himself the said Stephen Carrithers
and his heirs and against all persons whatsoever claiming by,
through or under them in any way whatsoever but not against the
claims of any other person whatsoever and whereas the said Steven
Carrithers claims title to said land by virtue of deed from James
L. Henderson and Charles Henderson which deed is of record in the
clerks office of Shelby County Court, now it is agreed that the
said James Beard shall have full benefit of the covenants of
warranty contained in the deed of said James L. Henderson and
Charles Henderson and should said land ever be lost by the said
James Beard, his heirs or assigns then and in that event it is
understood and agreed that the said James Beard, his heirs may
use the name of Stephen Carrithers, his heirs ?? to sue for and
?? cover anything for which the said Henderson or other of them
may be liable upon their deed and warranty aforesaid, which is to
be exclusively understood and agreed that the said Stephen
transfers only his title to the said land and the benefit of said
deed and warranties without any recourse upon himself or Jean,
his wife, have hereunto subscribed their names and affixed their
seals this day and year first within written.
