Keys to elongating your silhouette:
- Horizontal lines cut off the figure and make us appear wider and shorter than we are. Avoid tops and bottoms that are in high contrast colors (a white top and black pants, for example). It is better to choose similar colors to create an elongated look.
- Vertical lines such as pleats, v-necklines, open jackets and slacks create an elongated silhouette.
- The same color (monochromatic) from head to toe will also create a continuous, lengthwise flow. Blend similar colored shoes and hose to appear taller.
- Avoid tops that hit below mid-thigh unless paired with a skirt that falls above the knee.

Accessories - Dos and Don'ts
1. Do wear a gently pointed toe. It's more lengthening than a rounded or square toe.
2. Don't wear t-straps, bows or heavy buckles on your shoes - it creates a wide, horizontal effect.
3. Do wear your skirt hems long enough to cover your boots. Otherwise you create a broken line instead of a slenderizing vertical line.
4. Don't wear flats unless paired with long narrow pants or a short skirt. Heels of at least 1 1/2 inches are a better choice |

Keys to a Sleek Silhouette:
- Opt for a monochromatic outfit where your top and skirt or trousers are the same color or hue.
- Wear blazer and cardigans long and unbuttoned for maximum vertical lines.
- Oblong scarves are a great accessory when tied loosely around the neck, creating a long, vertical line.
- Match pantyhose hue to skirt or pant and shoe color to create a slender silhouette.
- Avoid chokers, long necklaces or pendants are more slimming.
- Choose shoes with at least a 1 inch heel -- the taller the better.
- Elongate the neck with open necklines such as v-necks, sweetheart necklines and vertical cowl necks.

| TALL |
For women 5' 9" and over, it would seem that finding fashionable clothing would be easy. After all, aren't the catwalks filled with lovely, tall models?
BUT.. in the real world it is difficult to find a 34" inseam hence, the perfect fit eludes most tall women.
Some tall women combat the problem by shopping in the men's department, some by frequenting tall-only boutiques and others order their clothing from a custom tailor. |
TALL WOMEN
• can indulge in wide belts
• should avoid skirts that are too short or too long
• can tuck shirts into pants and skirts to create a horizontal line to show off their waist line
• can wear horizontal patterns and textured fabrics
• can wear longer or flared skirts
• can wear short skirts, especially when paired with knee-high boots
