| The Gilliam-East John Day Watershed Council was established on June 11, 1997 by the Gilliam County Court in the State of Oregon. On this day, the Gilliam County Court approved the establishment of the Council and supports it's activities and functions. The purpose of the Gilliam-East John Day Watershed Council, as stated in their charter, is formed to address watershed management issues within the political boundary of Gilliam County and the Rock Creek drainage and to provide a framework for coordination and cooperation in implementing watershed improvement programs. The watershed council's current structure is made up of five voting council members each as landowners representing their individual watershed working groups, and seventeen non-voting members representing the resource stakeholders, and the watershed council coordinator. The Gilliam-East John Day Watershed Council is an umbrella council for the watershed working groups within the watershed council area. There are five watershed working groups: Ferry Canyon, Hay Creek/Scott Canyon, Thirtymile Creek, Rock Creek, and Lonerock Creek. The Gilliam-East John Day Watershed Council holds quarterly public meetings. For more information please contact the watershed coordinator. |
