INSIDER'S VIEW
LAUREL SPRINGS @ GIBBSBORO II - 10-11-2009

There are good draws and bad draws in soccer, and unfortunately for the Grays, Sunday's 1-1 tie falls into the latter category.  What should have easily been a 5 or 6 nil win left the Gibby's feeling stunned as they returned to Jimmy's house for the post game recap.

Dominating play from the opening tap, the Gray's just couldn't find that finishing touch, with just about every player on the team having a point blank effort at some point turned away or sail high/wide.  Shots on goal had to be 10 to 1 in the squads favor, but as happens so often in games like this, as time wore on and the game still scoreless, one slight lapse in the back turned into a Laurel Springs goal in the third quarter.  The Gibby's continued to press forward in the fourth, and finally broke through when Dave Baitinger put one in the back of the onion bag with plenty of time left for more.  For the rest of the game, the majority of the action was inside of Laurel's 18, but the ball would not cross the line.  Poor "Stump" Ekstrom's leg almost fell off from hitting what had to be a record number of corners.  Frank "Superstar" Ottinger sent several fine balls in, and Stosh Hatley, re-capturing some of his youth, broke free on a beautiful ball from Bobby late, but was taken down hard just outside the box.  It was a good thing he has no ligaments or cartiledge left in either knee, or there could have been some damage.  Alas, it was not to be, and when the final whistle blew with the ball bouncing around in the goal mouth, the Grays were left sorely dissapointed with the draw.  As number one fan Rachel Davy stated with a slight slur afterwards, Bloody Mary dripping from her chin, "How the hell did you not win by ten goals?".   Still, you get the feeling that this team is coming together and playing well, and with a few more bounces their way and the season still early, the team is very confident that a run at the top of the table is very much still in the cards.
