MATHEMATICS

Math 8 (Prereq: Mathematics 7)
Grade level: 8

This course is a bridge between elementary math and Algebra I.  It covers all the topics of a regular Mathematics 8 course but places a greater emphasis on algebraic terminology and manipulations.  It is recommended for all students who have mastered the basic operational skills in mathematics but who are not yet ready for the intense work with abstract concepts required in regular algebra courses.

Algebra I/Part 1 (Prereq: Math 8)
Grade level: 9,10,11,12 (Standard Weight)

This is the first year of a two year program in Algebra I.  This course covers the equivalent of the first semester of Algebra I and is designed to accommodate the student who needs a stronger background in the basic concepts of algebra than a one year program can provide.

Algebra I/Part 2 (Prereq: Algebra I/Part 1)
Grade level: 9,10,11,12 (Standard Weight)

The second year of the two year program in Algebra I is designed to be a follow up of the first year, and taken by those students who have completed Algebra I/Part 1.  This course will cover the equivalent of the second semester of Alg. I.

Algebra I (Prereq: Math 8, Teacher recommendation)
Grade level: 8,9,10,11,12 (Standard Weight)

Algebra I is a traditional course that requires the student to use algebra as a tool for representing and solving a variety of problems, to use tables and graphs to interpret algebraic expressions, equations, and inequalities, and to use matrices to organize and manipulate data.
