GHC AWARDS 2005
Starting early last summer, GH Changes decided to honor the hard working writers of the game by hosting the first (hopefully annual) GH Changes RPG Awards. Each player was invited to submit their top five nominations for each category. From there, a top three was decided. Players where then invited to choose their favorite from the top three. Congratulations to all the winners and the nominees!
BEST ADULT FEMALE
FIRST
PLACE - Laura Spencer (played by former member Jay). The Spencer
matriarch returned in 2005, miraculously reviving from the coma that had
trapped her for over a year. However, she came back with some not so
good news. She was only awake thanks to a drug Helena had. It was her
fault she was in a coma and without a constant supply of the pills
Helena has hidden, she will fall back into her coma. Laura's
willingness to do anything for her family and her struggle to accept new
son, Talon makes her a complex character worthy of first place.
SECOND
PLACE -
Carly Corinthos (played by
Jen). Carly is one of GH Changes' tortured yet feisty characters. In
the space of one year, she had both highs and lows. She reconnected
with husband Sonny after dealing with her brain injury. She then dealt
with the fact that her son had been kidnapped by his biological father.
To add to that, her teenage daughter showed up. The Corinthos family
didn't get to be happy long - Carly was forced to tell Sonny about
Kristina, blowing apart their relationship. No matter what Carly is
going through she always tries to keep her chin up!
THIRD PLACE - Skye Quartermaine (played by former member Katie). Rounding out the most memorable women, Skye's year was one of love. She met and got close to newcomer Devin Ross. She successfully worked her way out of her daughter's attempts to reunite her with Jax. Her relationship with Devin turned serious and the two admitted that they were in love with one another. Skye has always been graceful and understanding. Let's hope she can maintain that with Devin's affair!

BEST ADULT MALE
FIRST PLACE - Luis Alcazar (played by Mandy). Luis came back with a bang. Once assumed dead, Luis first returned to town undercover. He lurked and no one knew the difference. Anyone who spoke with him assumed he was his brother Lorenzo. Then he revealed himself - making sure that Alexis knew he was alive and well. He didn't waste any time sticking the screws to her either making sure she knew that he intended to tell Sonny about Kristina. He got an icy reception from daughter Sage though and only the love of Allyson Meyers seemed to be able to counteract the manipulative nature of Luis.
SECOND PLACE - AJ Quartermaine (played by Chris). AJ is definitely GH Changes' version of a tortured male. He started off so well - finding love with Cleo Corinthos. The two fought to be together despite her being Sonny's daughter. Then things changed between them and it went sour fast. AJ kidnapped his son Michael and when Carly, Sonny and John found him he was sure he was dead. But there was a twist - AJ wasn't the one who kidnapped Michael. It was Junior - AJ's alternate personality. He realized he was sick and went away to fix himself.
THIRD PLACE - John Durant (played by Xavion). John is the character you love to hate. He has the ability to play both sides of the fence. On the one hand, he formed an alliance with Reese Marshall and William Windsor to take down the criminal element - which would include son-in-law Sonny. On the other hand, he was there when Michael went missing and although he didn't agree with Sonny's methods, he was instrumental in helping find the boy. In the end, who knows what side his loyalties will ultimately fall on.

BEST YOUNGER FEMALE
FIRST PLACE - Sam Morgan (played by Mandy). Sam came to town as a con artist, sent after Jax. So how did she end up married to Jason with a baby girl? Well, after she successfully seduced Jax her double life was discovered and she was promptly kicked out on her butt. She and Jason connected pretty fast and the two also took a tumble in the hay. A few weeks later she was pregnant...but who's the daddy? After an agonizing few months she was overjoyed to find out that Jason was the father of baby Heaven. The three are now a perfect family...but for how long?
SECOND PLACE - Elizabeth Webber (played by Jen). Elizabeth the murderer?! That's what this year gave us! When Faith Roscoe was discovered dead, Elizabeth soon emerged as the number one suspect. Both Ric Lansing and Lucky Spencer worked to hide it while Liz struggled to remember if she really was the one to rain the fatal blow down on her head. This year was not all gloom for Liz though - she and Lucky reconnected and were soon an item. And Zander Smith returned so Cameron now has both his parents. Still, she'll rest easier when this Faith business is figured out once and for all!
THIRD PLACE - Courtney Matthews (played by Elyse). Courtney has emerged as a caring young woman and this year really highlighted that. After her failed marriage to Jason, Courtney became friends with Jax. The friendship soon turned to more but they took things slow. When Jax discovered that he may the father of Sam's unborn child, Courtney was by his side. Her relationship with Jax did ruffle a few feathers - most notably with Jax's daughter Kasey who desperately wanted her parents reunited. Courtney's happy life is now being challenged by newcomer Vincent Caine. Who knows what this scoundrel has in store for her.

Best Younger Male
FIRST PLACE - Jason Morgan (played by Jen). The word that best describes Jason is loyal. Once he cares for a person, his loyalty is hard to shake. He has helped friend Sonny Corinthos on numerous occasions. But this year his main concern was Sam McCall. After a night of passion lead to many questions, Jason promised to be there for the baby no matter who the father was. He even went as far as to promise Sam that if Jax turned out to be the father he would rig the test to say otherwise. In the end, he and his lady love got their wish - a daughter appropriately named Heaven.
SECOND PLACE - Zander Smith (played by Mandy). Zander was supposed to be dead but as many know, no one stays dead. He came back during the height of a major snow storm battering Port Charles, collapsing on Maxie Jones' porch. She took him in and he revealed a big secret - he had been held captive by Helena who had taunted him with the knowledge that he was Alexis Davis' son. He worked up the courage to tell Alexis and the two were reunited. He began to settle back into life in Port Charles which included coming to terms with Emily and Nikolas and reaching out to his infant son.
THIRD PLACE - Lance "Talon" Spencer (played by Chris). When Talon first came to town, no one knew who he was, including him! He had a lot of blank spots in his memory he was determined to figure out. But the newest member of the PCPD had no trouble attracting the ladies...within a few weeks he had both Sage Alcazar and Serena Baldwin chasing after him. Sage eventually won out and was by his side when one of the most inventive plots to hit the game went down. Seems Talon is the son of Luke and Laura, via a sperm and an egg that Helena stole from each of them!

BEST TEEN FEMALE
FIRST PLACE - Sage Alcazar (played by Mandy). Sage is an Alcazar through and through. She first landed in town to go after the woman who was responsible for her father's death. She soon found herself face to face with her not so dead father and instead of embracing him, she was furious for toying with her emotions. She found herself mixed up in the Spencer-Cassadine war when she found out her cop boyfriend was really the son of legendary couple Luke and Laura. Oh well, she's got the claws for it!
SECOND PLACE - Lulu Spencer (played by Vix). The now teenage daughter of Luke and Laura had plenty to deal with over the last year. She was the first one to discover her mother was out of the coma when she came face to face with Laura in the Spencer homestead. She also was faced with getting to know another brother. Through it all, she had Dillon by her side. At first the pair where just good friends but it became apparent that they were more to each other when they ended up sleeping together. Now they are doing their relationship in reverse.
THIRD
PLACE - Katia Vargos (played by Jen). The daughter of international
criminals Carlos and Marisol Vargos, Katia is used to getting what she
wants. She came to town and immediately tried to catch the attention of
the teenage male population. But first she met a slightly older guy,
Joshua Jacks. The pair had a fun time but Katia soon became bored. She
next met and slept with Diego Alcazar. Again, the pair parted and Katia
next met Kyle Radcliffe. After sleeping with him, reality hit - Katia
was pregnant!

BEST TEEN MALE
FIRST PLACE - Dillon Quartermaine (played by Mandy). To put it frankly, Dillon is a goofball...but then again he wouldn't have it any other way. Living with the Quartermaine family does lead one to find joy any way possible. Dillon had an interesting year. He and Georgie finally made love for the first time nearly getting caught by Mac. But an accident left Georgie paralyzed and caused the two to lash out at each other, effectively ending the relationship. He leaned heavily on friend Lulu and soon discovered there were feelings there that were more than friendly.
SECOND
PLACE - Kyan Thomas (played by Xavion). Kyan is a newcomer to Port
Charles' teen set. However he had brought enough angst and confusion to
last them all a long time. First he searched for his real parents
discovering they were none other than prominent lawyer Justus Ward and
criminal Faith Roscoe. Then he had to deal with the fact that his
mother was murdered and try to wiggle his way into the Quartermaine
family, no easy feat. He then made the mistake of sleeping with Dakota
Miller, which resulted in...you guessed it, a pregnancy. Top that all
off with the fact that he is now questioning his sexuality, and Kyan has
a lion share of problems!
THIRD PLACE - Kyle Radcliffe (played by former member Jay). Kyle came back to town drug free and hoping that Maxie would give him the time of day after what happened between the two. His wish was not granted as Maxie snubbed him. This lead him to the open arms of mob daughter Katia Vargos. The two got busy and like many other teens of Port Charles threw caution to the wind and said the hell with protection. And you guessed it, Katia winds up pregnant. But where is Kyle? Let's hope he at least tries to do the right thing.

BEST ORIGINAL FEMALE
FIRST PLACE - Eden Cassadine (played by Mandy). When she first came to town, her name was Eden Collins. She knew exactly why she was there - to get close to sister Alexis Davis. She kept the secret of her paternity while she got to know Alexis. To make it look like she had a true purpose in Port Charles, she bought Club 101 and turned it into a hot spot. Eden soon revealed her true identity to Alexis and was overjoyed to be accepted by her. She also reconnected with Lorenzo Alcazar, with whom she had a stormy relationship with. Hopefully this time around things will be better.
SECOND PLACE - Allyson Meyers (played by
Katie). Allyson came to town to catch
up with friend Carly, whom she knew from Florida. She had the
misfortune of running into Luis Alcazar and overheard a plan that
definitely wasn't for her ears. To keep her quiet, Luis kidnapped her.
It turned out to be a lavish prison as Luis gave her the run of his
estate. Soon the pair were locking lips. But Allyson made him slow
things down when she revealed that she was a virgin and would remain
that way until she knew she was in love.
THIRD PLACE - Marisol Vargos (played by Mandy). Cool, calm, and lethal - those are just a few words to describe Marisol. She is the wife of a major crime boss. But instead of sitting on the sidelines filing her nails, Marisol plays an active role in husband, Carlos' business. She is equally to blame for most if not all his dastardly deeds. Although this might sound like a match made in heaven, the pair actually don't get along that well. Carlos has cheated numerous times including openly pursuing a model. To her credit, Marisol has long had feelings for Devin Ross.

BEST ORIGINAL MALE
FIRST PLACE - Devin Ross (played by Xavion). Devin is definitely one of GH Changes' most successful original characters. With a family connection to a major canon character and a relationship with another, Devin fits easily into the canvas and it's almost as if he belongs in Port Charles. He first came to town looking for his real father. He enlisted Skye Quartermaine's help and the pair tracked down John Durant, someone Devin already knew and despised. This of course made him a brother to Carly Corinthos. His search lead to he and Skye hooking up. He cares a great deal for her and is trying to stay strong when Marisol Vargos tempts him.
SECOND PLACE - Lance "Talon" Spencer (played by Chris). None has ever quite made a splash like Talon. As mentioned before he came to town with many questions about himself. He suffered searing headaches and memory flashbacks that teased readers until they were practically shouting "WHO THE HECK IS THIS GUY?" We thought we knew the answer when Helena announced he was Stefan's son. However there was one more twist when Scott Baldwin revealed the extent of Helena's lies - he was really the son of Luke and Laura!
THIRD PLACE - Caleb Turner (played by Mandy). Cocky, arrogant and sarcastic to the core, Caleb came to Port Charles on a whim. He literally threw a dart at the map and when it hit Port Charles decided that it sounded alright to him. A con man since he was a teenager, Caleb knows how to play people over quite easily. In little under ten years he has pocketed a fair amount of cash, but he likes to spend as much as he takes so he has little to show for it. When Caleb heard that the Quartermaines were offering a large chunk of money for a blood donor, he was there immediately. He was rocked to find out there was a good reason for he and Alan's blood to match.

BEST COUPLE
FIRST PLACE - Devin Ross & Skye Quartermaine (played by Xavion and former member Katie). Devin and Skye are well loved because they are romantic! After their initial meeting, Devin found himself confessing to her about his adoption. She knew all to well what it was like to not know who your father was so she agreed to help him. Along the way they fell in love and he managed to win over her daughter, Kasey, something Jax's newest girlfriend cannot say.
SECOND PLACE - Lance "Talon" Spencer & Sage Alcazar (played by Chris and Mandy). Can a cop love the daughter of a mob boss? Well, in GH Changes anything is possible. Although at first, Sage was weary of Talon given his position on the PCPD, she couldn't resist the handsome officer. But she had competition in the form of Serena Baldwin. In the end it was obvious who Talon had chosen and the pair became very serious. Of course her uncle nor her father were too pleased when she announced she was engaged. It wasn't her young age that worried them - it was the fact that he was a cop and a Spencer!
THIRD PLACE - Steven Webber & Gia Campbell (played by former member Katie and Mandy) The fun loving doctor and the sassy lawyer - who can resist such a fun combination? Well, at first apparently Gia could because she labeled Steven not her type after Alexis set them up on a date. But after she spent some time with Steven she soon changed her mind. The two were obviously in love and were delighted when they discovered they were having a baby. However, tragedy struck and Gia lost their son. Is their bond strong enough to overcome this?

BEST GROUP CHEMISTRY
FIRST PLACE - Alan Quartermaine, Monica Quartermaine & Edward Quartermaine (played by Chris, Jen and former member Katie). There is nothing like a good round of bickering to spice a game up. And when you need to find bickering look no further than the Quartermaine home. These three characters have had plenty to needle each other about this year - Alan's got a new illegitimate child, but hey, so does Monica! And Edward just feels the need to insert himself into the lives of EVERY Q. Of course they can pull together too - like they did for the death of Lila.
SECOND
PLACE - Jasper Jacks, Courtney Matthews, Jason Morgan & Sam Morgan
(played by Jen, Elyse and Mandy). So the real question here is did they
couple swap? Because it was not so long ago that Courtney was married to
Jason and Sam was shacking up with Jax. Well, in reality Courtney was
divorced from Jason before she got with Jax and although she had slept
with Jax a few nights before she got with Jason, her relationship with
the Aussie was over too. Still when the four of them got trapped
together during the storm and with the paternity of Sam's baby up in the
air, it did make for some awkward moments.
THIRD PLACE - Sonny Corinthos, Carly Corinthos & John Durant (played by Mandy, Jen and Xavion). What do you do when your husband is a well known mobster and your father is federal prosecutor? That's the dilemma Carly faced when she tracked down her father. It was clear that when the three of them were in a room together, nothing good was going to come out of it. In fact, it usually ended in a war of words between Sonny and John and Carly was forced to step in. She finally had to tell John that she didn't want a relationship with him if he was going after Sonny. The three do have their moments of brief peace - like when Michael was missing.

BEST LOVE TRIANGLE
FIRST PLACE - Laura Spencer/Luke Spencer/Helena Cassadine (played by former member Jay, Mandy and Jen). Well, not a love triangle in the strictest sense of the word - unless you substitute hate for love. We all know that Luke Spencer has loved and probably will always love Laura. But that didn't stop Helena from blackmailing her enemy into marriage! Yep, just call her Helena Cassadine-Spencer. Of course, Luke is playing along for now, until he can get his hands on the medication Laura needs to survive and secure his family's safety. Then he's high tailing it to the nearest divorce court!
SECOND PLACE - Serena Baldwin/Lance "Talon" Spencer/Sage Alcazar (played by Chris and Mandy). This triangle definitely has old school soap written all over it. Two young beautiful women vying for the affections of the handsome man. They bicker, and yes, even get physical. In fact Serena went as far as to try and charge Sage for assault but it backfired when Sage got her to admit she had landed the first blow. And even though Talon eventually ended up with Sage, the bad feelings between the two women are still there!
THIRD PLACE - Georgie Jones/Dillon Quartermaine/Lulu Spencer (played by former member Keli, Mandy and Vix). The triangle that wasn't supposed to be. Everyone assumed that Dillon and Georgie would live happily ever after no questions asked. But one night changed all that. After they finally made love, Georgie was accidentally paralyzed when she and Dillon were playing around in the snow. Although it was temporary, she lashed out at Dillon and he turned to Lulu. Things got heated and they ended up together!

BEST RIVALRY
FIRST PLACE - Helena Cassadine vs. Luke & Laura Spencer (played by Jen, Mandy and former member Jay). Not only is this a long standing rivalry in the game, it's also canon. The Cassadines and the Spencers have always hated one another, but Helena has been overzealous in her pursuit of them. She has topped herself this year by first being behind a scheme involving Luke's sperm and Laura's egg. Then she used the newfound Spencer to blackmail Luke into marrying her! Of course the Spencers will hit back!
SECOND PLACE - Serena Baldwin vs. Sage Alcazar (played by Chris and Mandy). A lifelong rivalry in the making - Sage and Serena first sparred over a man. The two came to blows but smart Sage allowed Serena to get the best of her so she could get Serena arrested in the end. Even after Talon chose Sage the two still could not bury the hatchet. Their rivalry just found a new focus like the fact that Sage is modeling for Deception and Serena is modeling for the competition - Revamped. There are more catfights in their future.
THIRD PLACE - John Durant vs. Sonny Corinthos (played by Xavion and Mandy). It's only natural for the mob boss to be rivals with a federal prosecutor. But just to spice up the deal - let's make the mob boss's wife the prosecutor's daughter. Carly is definitely in the middle of this rivalry. John and Sonny have come to blows over everything - his lifestyle, Carly, and most recently, John's grandkids. Sonny is determined to live his life the way he always has and John is determined to take him down once and for all. Friendship doesn't seem like it is in the future.

BEST WRITING CHEMISTRY
FIRST PLACE - Mandy and Jen. Mandy and Jen have created many storylines together in the last year. They have many pairings together - Sonny & Carly, Jason & Sam, and Lorenzo & Eden just to name a few. They also know how to add a little drama and angst to their storylines. For example, Sonny and Carly are currently on the outs after Carly was forced to admit that she knew Sonny was Kristina's father.
SECOND PLACE - Xavion and Katie. Xavion and former member Katie have created one of the game's favorite couples - Devin and Skye. They chose to forgo a lot of the soap clichés when creating this couple. It wasn't an instant attraction nor was it marred with jealously. They chose to take things slowly and allow Devin and Skye to become friends before they became lovers. In fact when they finally made love it was after they were sure of their feelings. Definitely different then most couples!
THIRD PLACE - Jen and Katie. These two have given us some of GH Changes' most inventive twists. Case in point - Chloe Roberts. Chloe is the teenage daughter of Jasper Jacks and Carly Corinthos. When she was a teenager, Carly got herself pregnant - just her like her mother before her. And just like her mother before her, Carly decided that adoption was the best thing. When Katie brought Chloe onto the canvas it was obvious that Carly was going to have her hands full with a teenage daughter.

BEST DRAMATIC STORYLINE
FIRST PLACE - Zander is a Cassadine! Zander Smith died in a hail of gunfire...or at least that was what everyone in Port Charles thought. In reality he had been kidnapped by Helena Cassadine. Why would Helena want Zander? She had discovered a secret that Alexis thought was buried for good. When she was a teenager she gave birth to a son...but to protect him she gave him up for adoption. Her son turned out to be Zander Smith. After months of taunting and living in a dungeon, he escaped one snowy night and collapsed on the doorstep of Maxie Jones. He eventually came face to face with his mother - and the two were tearfully reunited.
SECOND PLACE - Talon is the son of Luke and Laura Spencer. For weeks Talon agonized over the many unanswered questions in his life. He had flashbacks of memories and eventually all roads lead to Helena Cassadine. The evil Cassadine matriarch was having a ball and it seemed the perfect place to confront her. It was there that she announced that Talon was Stefan's son. Not dramatic in the least since Talon had assumed that he was connected to them because of his flashbacks. But then the bomb was dropped...in front of the entire town and forced to by a returning Scott, Helena revealed how she had stolen a sperm and egg from the Spencer couple and created Talon.
THIRD PLACE - AJ's alternate personality kidnaps Michael. For years AJ was treated horribly by his family, and those who knew him. Whether or not he deserved such treatment depends on who you asked. But it really shouldn't come to a surprise to anyone that he finally snapped. He snatched Michael at the height of the snow storm. After he was rescued, the biggest surprise of them all came - AJ wasn't responsible for taking Michael. That distinction goes to Junior, an alternate personality created by AJ to deal with all the bad things in his life.
Other initial nominees: Sam doesn't know who the father of her baby is, Elizabeth may or may not have killed Faith
BEST ROMANTIC STORYLINE
FIRST PLACE - Luis is on a warpath but Allyson manages to distract him as a push and pull attraction builds. In something out of a Harlequin, photographer Allyson heard something she shouldn't have. Luis couldn't bring himself to harm her so he kidnapped her instead! Of course having her around his estate lead to many late nights thinking about the beautiful and charming woman. For her part, Allyson began to see past the exterior and started to fall for the brooding mobster. Of course given how they met, it began an uphill battle of what was right and what the heart was telling them.
SECOND PLACE - Jason and Sam fall in love despite not knowing who fathered her baby. Jason and Sam met on the docks just days after she had been rejected by Jax. They hit it off immediately which translated into some time in between the sheets. When Sam learned that she was pregnant, she told Jason the truth - either he or Jax could be the father. In one of the games more romantic moments, Jason proposed but Sam turned him down saying that she didn't want to be a mess he felt he had to clean up. He then proposed again insisting that he was marrying out of love. She accepted this time!
THIRD PLACE - Devin and Skye's friendship slowly turns to love. Once and awhile it's nice to have an uncomplicated romance. You know the kind that just happens and turns your insides to mush. Devin and Skye certainly fit the bill. As they worked to find Devin's father their feelings of friendship soon turned to feelings of love. Of course the complicated stuff hits every relationship once and awhile - Devin and Skye are no exception. The complicated stuff comes in the form of one Marisol Vargos.
Other initial nominees: A blind date leads to love and a baby for Steven and Gia, Lucky and Elizabeth try and figure out what happened to Faith and discover that old feelings never die.
BEST OVERALL STORYLINE
FIRST PLACE - La Familia Corinthos. Outlining the trials and tribulations of Sonny Corinthos, his wife and their children, this storyline had many twists and turns over the year. The most significant came with Michael's kidnapping. Carly was overjoyed to have her son back but of course her joy didn't last long when the Corinthos family was thrown into yet another crisis. The year ended with Sonny and Carly apart after Carly was forced to reveal that Kristina was Sonny's. But given their up and down nature, how long before they are back in each others arms?
SECOND PLACE - The Royal House of Cassadine. Port Charles is blessed (or perhaps cursed) to have a royal family living among them. One thing is for sure, it not truly Cassadine until it has been marred by angst and tragedy. Following in tradition of their ancestors, the Cassadines really kicked it up a notch with not one not two but three revelations of a long lost family member (Eden, Zander and Ken). There were also marriages - Prince Nikolas found his princess in Emily and Helena married Luke (no that's not a typo). Perhaps the brightest spot is the beginning of the next generation when Emily gave birth to daughter Lila.
THIRD PLACE - Quartermainia. Our final notable storyline is also centered around a family. The Quartermaines have been reeking havoc for decades...of course they do so mostly on other members of their family. Like the Cassadines, they welcomed some long lost members of the illegitimate form when both Alan and Monica were blessed with a child each. Justus also learned he had a son, and of course said son quickly learned the ropes. AJ also learned he wasn't alone ...well, he learned that he had a few too many personalities. Many members of the family just sat back content to let others fight. But they all pulled together when Lila died.
