AJ has a troubled past. He was once an alcoholic, and lost custody of his son with Carly Corinthos. He married Courtney Matthews, with the hopes of using her to regain custody of his son and to stick it to Sonny Corinthos, who he has always despised. He fell for Courtney but it was too late. AJ eventually found some peace in his life when he met Lydia Karenin, Nikolas Cassadine's ex-wife. They left town with money AJ had taken from his family. Lydia died and now AJ is back, with a his young daughter, Alana. He hopes to gain some access to Michael and finally settle his score with Sonny. At the same time, he is opening a new club in town. He met Cleo Windsor without knowing just who she was...Sonny's long lost daughter. After a tumultuous relationship with Cleo, AJ is single again although he is attracted to viperous Cassandra Miller.
