Abstract This paper presents a new concept for internal pipeline inspection. The objective of the system are early detetion fo local failures and assesment of the different sections of the network system. The robot is a COMPUTER AUTOMATED FISSURE DETECTION equipment. The system may also be used to provide a precise mapping of the pipeline network. The robotic system could be placed inside a truck. The robot consists of hydrodynamic modules linked by water hose and fiber optic bus to the water pipeline to be inspected.
There is a camera module at the head, which takes the picture of the pipeline. The orfices present in the hose will generate jets to propel the modules. The signal tranmission is done by fiber-optic bus. The system is connected to the Graphical User Interface[GIS]. The use of computer speeds up the detection. Thus the proposed system could offer a practical solution to inspect the existing pipeline networks, without replacing it.

Abstract Artificial Intelligence is the computer software that performs tasts, we would consider intelligent, if dont by a person. This includes giving expert advice, understanding natural language, speaking like a human and recognizing complex patterns like handwriting. The three most useful AI programs today are Expert Systems, Natural Language Processing and Neural Networks.
AI is a part of Computer Science concerned with designing computer systems, that is sytems that exibit character we associate with intelligence in human behaviour.
The program written for this field of Artificial Intelligence is most commonly developed in LISP, LISt Processing language. The other popular in this field is PROLOG. The most recent and advantageous advancement of AI is ROBOTICS.

Symposium: VIRTUOSO-2000

Subject: Image Compression
Authors: Gomathy Gowri Narayanan, Shantha Rani
Abstract The maintenance of large raster image under spatial operations is still a major performance bottleneck. For reasons of storage space, image in a collection, such as satellite pictures in geographic information systems, are maintained in compressed form. Instead of performing a spatially selective operation on an image by first decompressing the compressed version, we propose to perform queries directly on the compressed version fo the image. We suggest a compression technique that allows for subsequent use of a spatial index structure to guide a spatial search. In response to a window query, our algorithm delivers a compressed partial image, or the exact uncompressed requested image region. In addition to the support of spatial queries on compressed continuous tone images, the new compression algorithm is even competitive in terms of the compression ratio that it achieves, compared to other standard lossless compression techniques.

Abstract Recent developments in communication are driven be high data rate wireless communication between two portable terminals that may be located anywhere in the world, the vision of a single phone that acts as a traditional cellular phone when used outdoors and as a conventional high quality phone when used indoors and the need for access media to the homes other than conventional copper phone lines. The great popularity of cordless phones, cellular phones, radio paging, portable computing and other personal communication services demonstrates rising demand for these services. Rapid growth in mobile computing and other wireless data services are inspiring many proposals for high speed data services.
In addition to mobile applications, Fixed Wireless Access[FWA] technologies offer promise of bringing high quality telephony, high-speed Internet access, multimedia, and other band services to home over wireless links. In this paper we have proposed new coding for increasing data rate over wireless channels.

Abstract Miniature robots enable low cost planetary surface exploration missions as well as new military missions in urban terrian where small robots provide critical assistance to human operations. Small size is needed to provide access to confine spaces in urban terrian and to make multiple mobile sensors easy to deploy by military personnel. Technology to sense and percieve the environment, and to autonomously plan and execute navigation maneuvers and other remote planetary task, is an important requirement for both planetary and surface robots and for urban-terrian robotic assistants.
The military and space thrusts in miniature robotics are mutually invigorating and provide a sygergistic approach to projected applications. Oppurtunities for technical exchange and infusion are easily exploited by individual researchers in pursuit of their technologies, operating at the institutions involved.
