words & music

The song I'm working on now came into being at the family shelter where I work. One of the woman who came through the shelter last year had been a gang member in the Boston branch of the Latin Queens. She was tough, but she had a heart of gold. In my mind, I saw her as a modern day cowgirl. After all, the dangers of the wild west couldn't be much different from those in the hood. Here's a sample of where I'm at with this song right now, along with the lyrics:

> Sound sample of Up Around the Bend:

Up Around the Bend - Ó 2004
She's just another cowgirl riding on the range. Just another cowgirl who doesn't need a name. It's midnight on the prairie, underneath the moon and stars. A cowgirl takes some comfort in the sound of her guitar.
She's just another bad boy hanging in the hood. Just another bad boy, and bad is sometimes good. It's midnight on the subway, underneath the city streets. A cowgirl takes some comfort in the quickness of her feet.
It's the wild west in places, where a dogg could use a friend. And you know there's trouble coming up around the bend. It's the wild west in places where a dogg could use a friend. Here's hoping she will find one up around the bend.
