Responses

Pass 8 - 14 unbal. / 9 - 12 or 13 - 15 bal., no 5-card major See below
1 15+ unbal./ 16+ bal. See Precision
1 0 - 7 (8) HCP
1 8 - 14 HCP, 5+
1 8 - 14 HCP, 5+
1NT 9 - 12 not 4 - 4 majors NV, 13 - 15 V, balanced Bidding after a weak 1NT Option: Jacoby Transfers
2 8 - 11 (12) HCP, 4+ 4+ or 19 - 20 bal. Ekren
2 5 - 9 HCP, 5 - 5 not both minors Wilkosz
2 5 - 9 HCP, Weak Two Weak Two
2 5 - 9 HCP, Weak Two Weak Two
2NT 5 - 9 HCP, 5 5 Unusual 2NT
Notes:
  • NV 2 can be balanced and 4 - 4 in the majors, and the mini 1NT denies 4 - 4 in the majors. Vulnerable it shows exactly 4 cards in one major and at least 5 in the other. With 5 - 5 open something else.
  • 1 - 1 shows at least 5 cards as opener would have opened 2 with a 4-card unless maximum.
  • 1/ cannot be minimum with a good 6-card suit, otherwise a Weak Two bid would have been opened.
In a strong pass system, there are no 3rd and 4th seat openings because pass is also an opening bid.
