Reactive armour blocks occupies most of the frontal area of the body. As the zaku is required to stay stationary when laying a barrage of fire with the howitzer, it is heavily protected by reactive armours and thick knee pad in the front. This is to enable the crew and critical system to stay intact and retreat to safety when hit by enemy rounds.
