The Attic

Originally the attics in Victorian homes were ballrooms where dances were held. This attic was never finished.

The stairs to the attic were refinished and the walls painted up to the door to the attic. As you open the door you go to a large landing that has a long bench-type shelf that we use for storage. There is a pull string light located here. The walls are finished in this area.

The stairs continue up into the attic where about 20% is floored. This includes an area that is a large cedar storeroon that is part of the original construction. We store holiday decorations here on the shelves and in a built-in cabinet with drawers. There is a light in this cedar room. There is a window over the cabinet.

The majority of the floorspace holds insulaton between the exposed rafters. If you look at roofs of homes in the winter you can tell which homes have good insulation and those that do not. Those that have snow on their roofs, when others have melted, indicate that their insulation isn't adequate. The insulation is all fiberglass.

We use this area to store furniture from the front porch in the winter, the large holiday wreath, and misc. There is another light fixture in this area.

Access to the Widow's Walk is from this area. A ladder takes you up to the trap door which leads you to the rooftop!
