The Master Bathroom

THIS PAGE IS STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION

The Master Bathroom has two entrances, one from the Master Bedroom and one from the Hallway.

This room was originally a fifth bedroom. When this floor was used as an apartment (for the converted duplex) it became a kitchen. George inherited red painted floors, yellow, blue and red cabinets, psychodelic wallpaper, and old appliances.

Everything was completely torn out. It was a major job to strip the floor, numerous layers of wallpaper, and remove layers of paint. Walls and ceilings were replastered. Not to mention old plumbing to work around and installation of new. The room was wallpapered and professional drapes were made with decorative rods. All of the fixtures in the bathroom are polished brass Mowen fixtures.

Three Grecian pillars were ordered and shipped to form the corner framing for the shower. One pillar was cut in half to go flush to the wall on the back corners. This was done to extend the look from the first floor to make this room blend with the style of the house.

The interior of the shower is marble title. The Mowen shower head adjusts to several settings to adjust the water flow. A wall mounted soap dish was installed.

On the left of the shower as you walk in is the faucet for the shower that you turn to adjust the water temperature.

Lower brass shower heads with two arms were installed to direct water flow. These have a push button to adjust flow or to turn on and off.

A center dual sink was created from an old pedistal dining table. Drawers were created on each side. Electrical outlets are provided on both sides. The cosmetic cabinet above the sink has mirrored doors on both sides for dual access. This was constructed with four sets of steps from the old staircase treaders from the from the main stairway. The flute that goes up to the ceiling was made from this wood as well.

Lighting was installed in such a way that selected areas can be illuminated in designated areas from each of the doorways (main hall and master bedroom). A water closet and bidet were installed in a corner niche that provides privacy with dual sided access to a floor cabinet for toiletries. A large walk-in shower was created large enough to bathe all the kids of a large family and the family dog at one time. Polished brass shower water assemblies were installed to provide water at two levels with a separate temperature control unit just inside the door.

The large Koehler porcelain on cast iron bathtub was another nightmare to bring up the stairs to the bathroom to be installed. It's deep basin assures high water for a great bath after a long day.

Glass shelves over the bathtub provides storage for additional toiletries to be displayed. The fixtures throughout are polished brass and require special cleaning to maintain their beauty.

The window drape treatments compliment the wallpaper and provides privacy and still permits a view to the outside.

A large lighted cabinet acts as a storage cabinet for towels. This unit had been in George's homes for many years and used for numerous storage applications, and certainly works well in this room.

Two Grecian style replicas adorn the walls over the water closet and tub areas giving a presence of excellence. These are both recessed into the wall and are permanent fixtures in this room. The lead glass window was a pricey $1,000.00.
