Last entry: Queen of the Damned

I was invited to a movie night at a friends on Saturday. We were each to find a couple of movie scenes where the music played a major roll in setting the tone. I was unable to find any. Each movie I looked to it was the sound effects that really set the tone. Once at the pot luck I realized I was looking for the wrong thing anyway. All of the clips were interesting, but it wasn't as good as when we brought clips of our favorite "romantic" scenes. The breadth of the selections and the depth of peoples understanding of romantic were eye opening. Keep in mind that these things are held as "men's nights" with only the wives of the hosts in attendance. Most of the guests are middle aged married men. The ones I know and that the host invites are much deeper than I expected of middle age middle American straight married men.
Though the clips were just interesting, the movies we ended up seeing were quite good. The host picked about twelve sets of two movies staring an actor or actress in a comedy and a drama. We each picked our favorite and we drew names as to which person's to watch. We ended up picking my choice which was "As Good As It Gets" and "Witches of Eastwick" staring Jack Nicholson. Several people hadn't seen either movie and all ended up really enjoying them. My personal thought was that we should have chosen something else as a drama as both of these movies are more comic than serious. In the end though, the food was good, as was the company, and everyone had a good time.
When Bruce and Cindy hold these things we start at about 5:00 and leave around midnight, exhausted but still wanting to finish the evening. This time things got started around noon and we ended around 9:00 and everyone felt as if the evening was ready to be over. Which is a good thing.
On Sunday I didn't do much of anything, I tried to rearrange my stereo/DVD/TV set up and did some cleaning . Nothing big. And now I am back at work starting a new week.
