| Well I'm broke again. This is my new mantra that I sing to the tune of Willy Nelson's "On the Road Again". Earlier this summer I really, and I do mean really, miscalculated my income and my expenses and had to be bailed out by Charles, not just once but twice; the bail out not the miscalculation. One bad job of figuring expenses against expenditures will mess you up for months. I am still recovering. So when reevaluating what I can do to offset the discrepancy in the short term I decided that I need to eat out a lot less. When I looked at my expenses I realized that eat out every day for lunch and sometimes as much as four times a week for dinner. That has to stop. This weekend I started out planning to stay home and finally getting my house back together. I've had to work late every night this past week and will have to work late again this coming week, up to the time I will be heading to St. Louis. Charles invited me to come watch him play in a weekend tournament that was taking place in the park a block over from my house but I decided on Saturday that I was just getting to much done to stop and take the chance of not coming back to it so I didn't go watch him. Our friend John called to say that he was throwing a going away party for Michael another mutual friend who is moving to Salt Lake City Utah. He had left me a voice mail at work but I had been so busy that I had never retrieved it. I told him that sure I would come over for the party. He lives a couple blocks over from me in the heart of the plaza, so going wouldn't be a problem. I decided that if I had missed his message I most likely missed others as well. Once I checked my messages I found that I had also missed one from my sister. Charles and I are heading to St. Louis over the labor Day weekend. I am going to stay with Ellen and her family and he is going on to Ohio for a volleyball tournament. She had called to finalize some of our plans. I got a hold of her later that afternoon and had a good long talk with her. She asked what I was up to for the weekend and I told her mostly house work but that I was going to a party that night. I am often concious of the fact that things here sound much more exciting than they really are. I did end up going to the party and I did have a good time but it was not anything exciting. John lives in a grand old building that has been made into condos. The building is across the creek from the plaza and has a great view of it. Unfortunately his apartment doesn't face that side of the building. Even without the view the place is quite nice. It was a nice quite evening of food and drinks with friends & aquaintences. Along with several mutual friends there were a number of guys there whom I had met at other partys, mainly the gaming parties that John used to organize at homes all over town. I am happy to say that most of the guys there, though almost all quite good looking, were not preening pretentious snobs and the few that were have figured out that they neither impress nor intimidate me. So we get along well. Charles was also at the party and had brought a friend who had driven over from Manhattan for the weekend. Both Charles and I enjoyed ourselves but were ready to go after being there for a couple of hours. We three walked out to a beautiful night and decided to do the river walk that divided John's place from the main plaza. Something I haven't done for some time. I often forget how really lovely it is on the plaza at night. Itis something that though right in front of my face I don't see. It was a nice peaceful way to end the night. |
