| Dear Journal, Well I am rather late in getting this on paper. It is already Friday and I am just now finding the time and energy to write about a rather non-descript weekend. I didn't feel any real rush to put it on paper since it was so ordinary. It did happen to be a three day weekend for me, since I work at a Catholic institution we got Friday off. This past weekend was Easter weekend. If you know any of the history of the Jews in Europe you know not only does it not hold any special significance for us you know the horrors we suffered over the past millennium during the celebration of the resurrection of the son of G-d. It being Easter, the university I work for gave the students and staff off for Good Friday and the students also had Easter Monday off. So I had a non-celebratory three day weekend. I had not celebrated Passover the major Jewish holiday that always falls close to Easter, which fell the week before this year, and all of my tentative plans to celebrate Easter with my Christian and not so Christian friends also fell through. So I found myself with three days of solitude in which to get some things accomplished. So now that you have been bored by my meandering preamble I will further bore you with the list of things I got accomplished. First I have been wanting to do something with my bathroom since I moved in. It is nondescript, rather shabby and inadequatly arranged. It is a small space w/ very little room for me to make improvements but one that I have been dilly-dallying with for some time is painting it. I repainted the ceiling and upperwalls because the painters the manager hires to paint each place before it is deemed re-habitable are terrible. They even managed to paint the bath tub and sink. Though I can tell they both were in bad shape painting them with indoor wall paint did little to help. So as I was saying I had already painted the upper walls and the ceiling a nice low gloss white, I still need to paint the wood work and the lower part of the walls. My building is what passes for old here in Kansas City. Keep in mind that it wasn't even a village 150 years ago. And if you didn't recognize it from the woodwork and moldings through out the building you definitely could tell from the steam heaters and the very old fashioned plumbing. So since I lucked out and vintage fixtures are in. I decided to go with the flow and finish it off in period steel chrome fixtures. I will be changing out the paper role and have added a glass shelf. One thing my place is lacking is adequate storage space. The glass shelf will be both decorative and functional. So far I have been storing the things I need to leave out on a white contact paper covered plain box right inside the door, so the new shelf will help make the room look finished. |
