Well this past weekend was a flop. I didn't have a lot planned but had one of those weekends where you don't really say yes to any specific plans with the expectations that you will be able to pick and choose what you want to do at the last minute. Well everything that I had planned to choose from fell apart at the last minute. In the end I only left the house once over the two day weekend and that was just to go to the grocer.
This week has been rather hectic at work besides having a number of meetings to go to my office is being dismantled, painted, & carpeted and I will be getting all new furniture. All things that I have needed for sometime and changes that have all been in the works for sometime but all of which happened suddenly and the work that I thought was going to stretch out over several weeks is slated to be finished in about one. - But really I am not complaining.
To make up for this past weekend I am going out twice this week. Tonight Wednesday, I am going out w/ David to hear the Symphony and then tomorrow I will be going out w/ Andy to dinner and a movie premier. We will be going to see the premier of "The Contender" w/ Gary Oldman, Joan Allen, Jeff Bridges, and Christian Slater. It looks really good.
On the family front. Ellen has gotten what she hopes and thinks will be a permanent job that meets here criteria. She wanted something that would really work around Alexis' schedule and was finding it a little difficult to find what she wanted. But it now appears that she may have succeeded. I haven't heard from anyone else in a while so I will have to make a point to try to contact them.
Lesson # 142144 Well I'm back, I went to the sympany last night and heard Itzhak Perlman play. I have often said that no matter the degree of my enjoyment of a classical piece I appreciate it so much more after hearing it live. I think that the Kansas Sympony is quite good but the added umpf of Isacc Perlman really made the evening special. His playing of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto was stupendus. I will be buying a copy for myself and for David today. The concert started with Liszt Mephisto Walz No. 1 which was a fun piece to begin with and showed off several of our musitions abilities, it then went on to Perlmen and the Violin Concerto. The concert ended with Dvorak's Symphony No. 7 after the intermission. A piece that I never liked on Disk and one after hearing live I've decided that I still don't like. Yes I do appreciate parts of it more, but as a whole I have no desire to add it to my collection.
After the concert David and I went to get something to eat and then I went home. I had taped the season premier of my favorite TV show, "The West Wing" and when I got home I turned the TV on to watch it. It was as always well written and well acted. As I was watching and realy getting into the story line the sound started to go out. by the time I got to the middle of the show the sound had gone completely. I was quite irritated and realized that it was my VCR. I will be taking it in to the shop to get fixed and going to the store to buy a new one this weekend. I have been planning to get a DVD player for some time but have been putting it off. I will still hold off on buy it but will go this weekend to get a new VCR.
Now tonight I will be going to the premier of "The Contender" with Andy. It looks good but will save judgement until tomorrow. |
