John: You’ve got to understand that the ordinary peasant and the ordinary
soldier in the Great Kingdom is not expecting us to walk into
Rauxes.
Chris: They wouldn't even know what we look like.
Geoff: They would recognize us, because we've been around for 20 years.
Larry: Some of the higher-ups might, but the common soldier wouldn't.
Tony: But you [Silent Thunder] would attract attention by your red
dragon-skin cloak.
John: The only way to get into the palace without starting a real fucking
stir --
Tony: Don't we want to?
Chris: I don't want to fight the whole country.
John: I don't want to fight 1000 Great Kingdom soldiers before going into
the palace. What I was thinking is, we ride up to the gates, and
when the guard says, “Why do you want to see the king?", I take out
the head with Trigog's mask on it, and I say, "I've got one of your
heads give me the money”.
Tony: Yeah. We could pretend we're mercenaries.
John: Or assassins.
Tony: Assassins, yeah.
John: At least they will say, "Okay, they've got 7 guys here, they've got
the head of Trigog"
Anthony: You might be the only one to get to see him.
John: At least we'll be past the main gates –
Anthony: We should teleport right into the city.
John: -- and Anthony, from the main gate, we just rush in.
Anthony: Teleport into the city.
Larry: Somebody walks into the room. It's a sage of Marlenus. He says
the clerics have found out for sure that the person who's been
trying to assassinate us and presumably sent those aerial servants
is no other than the king himself.
Anthony: What do, we know about the king?
Tony: He's a son of a bitch -
Anthony: What's his class? Is he a magic-user?
John: I've heard he's a magic-user thief.
Chris: I guess we all know -what this fucking asshole looks like.
John: Oh, yeah.
Tony: Yeah, we know. We've got his picture on coins.
Geoff: I do. I've met him.
Tony: Yeah, that's right. So have 1.
Larry: Marlenus says, “We met him”.
John: So he knows what you guys look like.
Larry: "You two spoke extensively to him.
Chris: So he knows what you guys look like.
John: -- and he can copy your voice.
Larry: Marlenus only said one sentence to Azuraz [when they met the king].
When you asked him if there were half-orcs in my armies. Marlenus
said yes, there are. That's all he said. But you two spoke a lot.
Tony: The little fucker.
Geoff: That's why he went there.
Tony: Should've iced this bastard as soon as he came to visit us.
Anthony: You know what? We all teleport to the city, let's say, and a few
of us make a real bad ruckus that forces them to call out the
whole army and gets everyone’s attention. The fighters start
using fireball arrows, or whatever, on the castle, the rest of you
guys go inside the temple. So the magic-users will be, say, looking
out the windows, saying, what the fuck is all the noise and the
battle going on? You guys get into the room, so nobody's thinking
about spells.
John: We teleport into the room, it could be set as a trap. If he's as
sneaky as I think he is. If all fails, he'll think, fine, you get
speak with dead, get information about the room --
Tony: Yeah, he's probably expecting it to happen.
John: -- and that's why I have a funny fear of those 4 ropes. It's rope
tricks. Guards.
Tony: Yeah, that's right.
John: You wouldn't have any guards if --
Chris: The first thing we do when we get into that room is yank down on
the ropes.
Larry: When he described the room, it's quite clear that if someone was
at the top of the rope, they wouldn't be able to see into the room,
because the ropes extend out of the room.
John: Yeah, okay. Bells.
Tony: Yeah.
John: Okay, so this is the second plan. If you didn't like the first
idea, this is the second idea. We teleport to Rauxes, with our
horses, we throw Azuraz's body over a horse, we throw Lazarus's
body over a horse –
Anthony: Throw dummy bodies.
John: No, it would be better with these two guys' bodies.
Tony: Feign deaths?
John: Yes, feign death.
Geoff: Not even that.
John: Something like that anyway.
Anthony: What about detect magic, it would detect that they're not really
dead.
Chris: You [Azuraz] don't have to feign it.
John: It's not magic, his is natural.
Tony: Alright, I won't feign it, I'll just act it.
Anthony: That's right.
Geoff: Yeah.
John: Then I'll say I'm there to pick up the reward, and show Trigog's
head.
Geoff: Sounds good.
Anthony: Put blood on the horses too.
John: Yeah, no problem.
Anthony: Pigs blood.
Tony: Long journey, yeah.
John: That would probably be the best way. At least it'll get us through
the gates. I don't know how far it's going to take us. Soon as
anything goes bad, I'm hightailing it inside.
Chris: Okay.
Anthony: Okay.
Geoff: As long as we know which way we're going.
Chris: Exactly, we gotta know where -we're going. Once we're in there if
we have to split up, we gotta have a point --
John: If you grab me one guard from inside the palace, make sure he's
dead, then I can find out where the main room is.
Chris: John, you can kill your own guy.
John: We might not have a chance.
Andrew: Do we have any idea of what the city looks like?
Larry: Rauxes? As far as I know, none of us has been to Rauxes.
Larry: However, Marlenus has a spy that has been in the city.
Andrew: Is he around?
Tony: Still alive?
Andrew: Okay, talk to him, see what the basic layout of the city is.
Geoff: And where the palace is.
Larry: He can tell us.
Geoff: Get him in.
John: Can even grab a guard outside the palace.
Chris: John, why don't we grab 7 fucking guards and dress up as guards?
Anthony: No.
Tony: That's what I thought.
John: No, if we can make it all the way up to the king's room, the king's
chamber, stating that we've got the bodies of the 2 guys, and the
head of another, fuck, right there he might say, "Okay, fine,
bring them to me.
Chris: Yeah ...
Anthony: Give one of us a magic-user that can teleport in and out. Teleport
one of us fighters in there with the magic-user. We grab a sage
or whatever guy that's in a cloak that's not really a fighter type
that's inside the palace. Cut his throat, the magic-user turns
around, teleports us back out to you guys, and we talk to the dead
or whatever.
Chris: Yeah, but we don't know what the inside of the palace looks like.
Anthony: That guy would.
Geoff: Why do you want to talk to the dead again in there?
Anthony: To find out exactly where the king is.
Larry: The spy comes to the room. He's wearing a mask. He says, "I've
never actually been in the palace itself but I have made sure to
pass by on numerous occasions when the gates were open and I have
seen inside it, through the gates. So, if one of you can ESP me
-- "
John: Yeah, we could get a full description.
Larry: You'd get a picture of it, to teleport there.
Tony: Tell Marlenus to do it.
Andrew: Do any of your clerics have ESP?
Larry: I can do it ... So I get a picture of the place off the guy. The
image I get in my head ... okay, here's the image I got. The open
gates, you're looking in -- this place is almost always dark.
There is a statue in the courtyard you can see in through. It's
a man on a horse. Beyond that, if you get very close to the gate
-- and now you're risking things cause there's guards there -- if
you look this way and that way, you can see a wall not too far
behind with 3 openings in it.
John: Door openings?
Larry: They're just openings. They extend quite a bit cause in this image
I have, they're dark inside. That's the only way to continue
going, because obviously the palace is beyond that wall.
John: That's right.
Andrew: How high are they?
Larry: The walls are 30, 40 feet high.
Andrew: How high is the second wall?
Larry: Same. There are towers in each corner, as you'd expect of any --
Geoff: How many floors in the palace?
Larry: Can't see the palace. Don't know.
Andrew: You can't see the palace at all from the city?
Larry: Not from this image I got from the spy. Obviously we're looking at
a courtyard which is just before the palace.
Chris: Look, if you're that close you should be able to see the- towers of
the palace.
Larry: I might see something indistinct, but it's very far away. I don't
think it's the palace
.
Andrew: Okay, what do you mean, it's dark? Darker than the rest of the
city?
Larry: No, it's just that they don't make much of an effort to light the
place up.
Chris: In other words, he saw it on a cloudy day.
Larry: And if you can't see the palace from this point ... at that point
the palace would have to be pretty fucking tall to see it over the
wall, cause you're pretty close to the wall. And rumour has it the
palace is not very high anyway.
Anthony: It's not a castle, it's a palace.
John: Hmmm.
Geoff: Is Rauxes a walled city?
Larry: Yes.
Andrew: How high is the outside wall?
Larry: It varies, because pieces of it were built at different times ...
anywhere from 20 to 40 feet. It's not meant to stop an army, it's
meant to stop thieves ... assassins.
Geoff: Animals.
John: Like us.
