David came to the United States in 1866 and became a naturalized citizen on 19 October 1871 at the Allegany County Circuit Court in Cumberland, Maryland. Upon arriving in the U.S., he worked as a coal miner at Lonaconing, Allegany Co., Maryland before later moving to Brisbin, Clearfield Co., PA.
