Geneseo's Road to Sigma

In the Fall of 2002, the stirrings of change began at SUNY Geneseo. A group of nine women were joined together by a common purpose. They sought to make a change on their campus by introducing a sisterhood. The women sought an organization that would:

•empower women by encouraging scholarship, community service, and leadership;
• provide a unified network of support for its members;
• educate themselves and others about the achievements, ambitions, and struggles of Asians and Asian-Americans in the past, present, and future;
•and promote activism in women's issues.

The group found their answer in the sisterly bonds of the Greek system. More specifically, they found a Greek organization that shared a common vision; they found Sigma Psi Zeta.

United in their mission, our charter founders Wendy Ho, Elizabeth Lau, Hana Lee, Sarah Lim, Gina Ng, Kim Nguyen, Veronica Park, Peninnah Villanueva Ragasa and Lydia Wu embarked on the journey to achieving sisterhood in Spring of 2002.

On June 2, 2002, our nine strong charter sisters became known as the Mu Charter of Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority, Inc., the first and only multicultural Asian/Asian-American Interest Sorority on the SUNY Geneseo campus.
