Saturn is, indeed, a beautiful planet. This is because it has a huge ring system. These rings are made up of ice and space debris. The rings are split in two by an empty space called the CASSINI DIVISION. Viewed through even a small telescope, Saturn is spectacular. Saturn is the second largest planet in the Solar System, around 120,000 km to be exact. it orbits at 1,427,000,000 miles from the sun. Saturn is not very dense at all, in fact, it would float on water! The planet completes one full orbit of the sun every 29.5 years. Saturn, like Jupiter, is not completly round, it is slightly squashed. Also, like Jupiter, it is very cold. The temperature fluctuates too much to give an average estimate, though. Saturn has around 20 moons, again because of its high gravitational pull. In fact, Saturn is very much like Jupiter, as it shares the same gaseous structure. Saturn's orbit is also very close to that of Jupiters, suggesting that the two planets may have the same origins. |
