THE STORY OF THE BOOK: This is probably my grimmest story, written during a particularly grim period in my life, and the trilogy remains unfinished. It went like this: After writing what I intended to be the 2nd of a series of six books, HarperCollins suddenly said, (more or less) "Oh, - we thought you were joking! We'll only be doing three!" So instead of being one third of the way though the saga I suddenly had to be two thirds! Major rewrite! So I threw out great hunks and re-wrote, producing The Rebel Masters in record time. But the unpleasantries had only just begun. The draft cover arrived and it was horrifying! - Blood, the gun, a woman being shot, - ugly ugly ugly! I protested strongly, pointing out that the scene as drawn was wrong on five major counts, and after a bitter fight they toned it down. The cover is now at least accurate to the scene I wrote. Sure, it happens in the book, but why smack people in the face with it? There were love scenes too! Anyway for whatever reason the book didn't sell that well and the third book was cancelled. The story remains unfinished, but you might be pleased to know I have embarked on retelling the whole story - a whole new book from the beginning. Do not hold your breath, though. It'll be a few years yet.
