Family story says that the family was living in Pennsylvania and had the first 5 children (1 had died) when Antonio witnessed a murder. He immediately packed up the family and headed for Canada, at the same time changing the family name from "Rudi" to "Gidaro" - his mother's maiden name. They could not cross the border because they were not U.S. citizens and so, settled in Maine. The 2 subsequent children were born as "Gidaro's". Antonio died in 1925 and in 1930 the family name was still "Gidaro".
