General Notes:
According to family folklore, while Antonio Rudi and Maria Intrieri were living in Pennsylvania with 4 children (the youngest (5th child) had recently died), Antonio witnessed a murder. The family left town in the middle of the night heading for Canada. They got to the border between Maine and Canada and couldn't get across because they were not U.S. citizens. They settled in Maine and at that time also changed the family's surname from "Rudi" to "Gidaro". "Gidaro" was Antonio's mother's maiden name. The 2 subsequent children were born as "Gidaro's". Antonio died in the influenza epidemic of 1925 at age 40. In 1930 the U.S. census lists the family as having the last name "Gidaro". Sometime after that, the oldest child Vincenzo (Jim) changed the "i" to an "e" and from then on the family went by the surname "Gedaro" and all descendents were born as "Gedaro's".
