Here is a candidate entry for the MacLean section of your Genealogy Pages:

My great-great grandfather was Roderick MacLean.  I am trying to trace his
ancestors who may have come from Tiree.

Here is the data I have on Roderick MacLean:

(1)  Bill Lawson - Genealogy Research Service for the Western Isles:
"Roderick MacLean, father of Hector, is most elusive.  We have his marriage
on 10th December 1839, when he is described as a shipmaster, resident in
Stornoway, and that is all!  He does not appear in the census of 1841 and
had certainly died by 1848, when his widow married Malcolm MacLeod, tailor,
in Stornoway on 6th December.  ........................  We do not even know
whether Roderick MacLean was originally from Lewis, or perhaps a visitor
from mainland Scotland.  We have not been able to locate his baptism in the
Old Parish Register for the parish of Stornoway, though this is not
conclusive, as the Register is far from complete in its coverage of local
families."

(2)  The entry in the Old Parish Register, for Stornoway, under Marriages:
"1839 Dec 10,  Roderick MacLean Master of the Brig John and Thomas of
Stornoway to Mary MacLean, resident at Newton of Stornoway".  Mary was born
August 27, 1818 in Stornoway.

(3)  Roderick MacLean was alive when his son Hector was christened on
September 22, 1840 in Stornoway.

(4)  Mary MacLean's son by her first husband Roderick MacLean was named
Hector.  Her son by her second husband was named Donald which followed the
Scottish naming pattern (Malcolm Macleod's father was Donald MacLeod).  If
Mary also followed the naming pattern with her first son, then Roderick's
father would be named Hector MacLean.

(5)  LDS data shows two possible Hector MacLeans having sons named Roderick:

(a)  HECTOR McLean married Catherine Cameron, July 22, 1802 in Tyree.  Their
11 children were: John (Jun 28, 1804), Donald (Dec 16, 1805), Duncan (Oct
12, 1807), Neil (Feb 19, 1810), RODERICK (Mar 11, 1812), Ann (Aug 8, 1814),
Catherine (Aug 5, 1816), Mary (May 19, 1819), Christina (Oct 29, 1821), Hugh
(Mar 7, 1825), Mary (Jun 13, 1832) - all dates are of christenings in Tyree.
Note:  if this Roderick married Mary MacLean he would have married at age 27
versus her age 21.

(b)  HECTOR McLean married to Flory McNiven.  Their 3 children were:
RODERICK (christened Jun 24, 1799 in Coll parish), a daughter (christened
Dec 1, 1800 in Tyree), RODERICK (christened Jan 24, 1803 in Coll parish).
Note: if the second Roderick married Mary MacLean he would have married at
age 36 versus her age 21.

(6)  Brigs were two-masted sailing ships which plied mostly coastal trading
routes, but oceanic voyages were not uncommon.  Many of the crews were
islanders themselves, a factor which went no little way in ensuring that,
whatever the weather conditions, the ships got through. There were, however,
mishaps such as the occasional loss of their vessels.

Can anyone add any facts concerning Roderick MacLean, or have any
suggestions for my research?
