Marriage 1 Sarah Mason b: 10 FEB 1789 in Brunswick County, Virginia

They were buried on their plantation in what is today called the Thornton
Cemetery.

He was a large landowner, being a typical Ingram; on a map of Lauderdale
County, in the Library of Congress his is hte only name on the Huntsville
Road (now Lee Highwaya) for quite a distance, in the eastern part of the
County. The cross roads, where the road going to Wheeler Dam crosses Lee
Highway, used to be called Ingram's Crossroads and the community now
called Center Star used to be called Mason (but as his land did not
extend that far west it may not have been named for his wife's family).
Perhaps if he had built a church and provided for the ministrations of
religious services, his name would have been kept; he was a Justice of
the Peace and that would seem to indicate the part of the County where he
lived was not regularly visited even by a circuit rider. Trust seems to
have been placed chiefly in land.

>From Paulette Haynes:
As I mentioned my husband has the Damerons and Mathis/Mathews as
ancestors, and according to what I have researched, Charles Mathis and Vines Mathis
were brothers. Vines married Ann Morehead Dameron (d/o Christopher & Sarah Ingram
Dameron) ,
26 Aug 1788 Brunswick Co. VA and Charles married Sarah Dameron (d/o
Christopher & Sarah Ingram Dameron) 21 Sep 1795 Caswell Co. NC.
Vines died about 1808 in Caswell Co. NC but his widow migrated with her
children to Randolph County, MO where she died about July 1847. Charles
and Vines Mathis were sons of Drury Mathis and Sarah Vines. Her maiden name
"Vines" was passed to me from another so I cannot verify that.

vi. JOHN TYLER DAMERON (Source: Cindy Horrace genealogy on ancestry [email protected].), b. 1809, Caswell, North Carolina; d. 1851, California; m. NANCY MAY LOVE.

Notes for JOHN TYLER DAMERON:
The 1850 census shows John and Nancy Dameron living with W. B. and Julia
McLean (CEN39). At this point I'm unsure who the McLeans are and their
relationship to John and Nancy. Marriage Records for Randolph county,
Missouri 1829-1859 @ Ancestry.com shows Dr. W. B. McLean married Julia A.
Dameron 10 February 1846. Not sure where Julia fits in the family tree at
this point.
After receiving John's probate record (PROB4) I now believe Julia was
John and Nancy's oldest daughter. It appears Nancy and her children lived
with Julia for a time.
Gene Pool @ Ancestry.com shows a second spouse for John as Jennifer Lynn
Slattery.
From Randolph County, Missouri Administration and Wills:
John Dameron
Heirs of Nancy Dameron his wife; Julia McLean, Willis M. Dameron, May E.
Dameron, James D. Dameron, E. S. Dameron, Levi E. Dameron, and John T.
Dameron 24 Jan. 1853.
I am not sure where John Tyler died, have seen listed as California and
Missouri. I wonder if he left his family in Missouri and went to the
California gold fields and died there? His place of death is listed as
California in Old Families of Randolph County but his will is in Randolph
County.

"George W. Dameron"
"This prominent citizen and enterprising farmer of Silver Creek township,
who has held several positions of prominence in the county, including
that of sheriff for four years, and for a generation has been regarded as
one of the most worthy and popular men in the county, is a representative
of that old and respected Dameron family, so many descendants of which
reside in this county and in other communities, and are always classed
among the best citizens wherever they live. (See Bartholomew Dameron
Notes)............ George W. was 17 years of age when his parents came to
this county, and he was married here eight years afterwards, June 25,
1940 to Miss Susan J. Lebban. She died five years afterwards, November
15,1845, leaving him one son, James B., who is now a resident of Chariton
county. To his present wife Mr. Dameron was married May 24, 1847. She was
Miss Eliza J. Mayo, a daughter of Allen Mayo of this county, and was born
December 27, 1827. Mr. Dameron has followed farming continuously from
boyhood, except while identified with the official affairs of the county,
and even then he continued to carry on his farm. In 1840 he was elected
constable for Silver Creek township and was re-elected six times
consecutively afterwards holding the office for 12 years, when he
resigned it to accept the office of sheriff of the county to which he was
elected in 1852. He was re-elected sheriff in 1854, serving that office
for four years consecutively."

29 Apr 1898--George W. Dameron, one of Randolph's oldest and best
citizens, died at his residence in Huntsville on Friday, April the 22nd. His funeral was
preached Sunday at Sweet Springs church by Rev. W. F. Bell, of Fayette, after which the
remains were laid to rest. He was followed to his grave Monday by his wife, Mrs. Eliza
Dameron, who had been sick for a number of days. In the death of Mr. and Mrs. Dameron,
Randolph has lost two of her best citizens.

Early Recollections by George W. Dameron
I was born near Leesburg, Caswell County, North Carolina, February 10, 1815. At the age of sixteen, I started to Missouri with my parents, Bartholemew and Rebecca Dameron, and with the families of J.C. and Alex Dameron and Bazley Wisdom. There were in the colony about sixty men, women, and children. About half of this number were Negroes belonging to the four families. We left the Old North State in October, 1831 and landed in Huntsville, Missouri, January 1st, 1832, being nearly three
months on the road. Our wagons that we came in were the old time overland schooners, and were drawn by horses and mules. We started with enough provisions to last us throughout the entire route notwithstanding we were on the road longer than we expected.

Notes for JOSEPH INGRAM:
Joseph moved to Illinois in 1835 and in 1837 moved to Polk County, Missouri where they resided until removed by death. Sally and Joseph had five sons born in Pulaski County, Kentucky. It does not appear that they took any slaves with them so Sally had her hands full. Morgan was 12, Isaac was 10, John 8, Lemiel 5, and Charles 2.

According to Collins "History of Kentucky" the settlers as late as 1846 engaged in the manufacture of salt. The wells were located on Fishing Creek. Joseph Ingram got involved with Cyrenius Wait in the production of salt. Joseph, no doubt, used his 110 acres as surety in his partnership with Mr. Wait. Joseph Ingram and Cyrenius Wait had partnership in three land grants, Fishing Creek was their water course.

Joseph's three son's Isaac, John S., and William were on the list of rebels. Joseph's oldest son Morgan, who lived in Cedar County, had joined the rebels. History of Marion County, Missouri by Holcomb and Missouri, A History of the Crossroads State by Mc Reynolds.

Biog./Hist. Note The act of the General Assembly passed on June 22, 1779, which established the Virginia Land Office, also provided for the rewarding of lands promised as bounty for specified Revolutionary War military service. The purpose of the bounty land system was to encourage longer military service. In order to qualify for bounty land, a soldier had to serve at least three (3) years continuously in the State or Continental line. Militia service did not count. Servicemen submitted various documents such as affidavits of commanding officers and fellow soldiers and discharge papers in order to substantiate their service record. When the claim was proved, the Governor’s Office issued a certificate to the register of the Land Office authorizing him to issue a warrant. The first warrant was issued in 1782 and the last in 1876 as heirs of warrantees continued to seek lands for additional service. Land awarded as bounty was in the present-day states of Ohio and Kentucky.
Related Work The papers accumulated as proof of service are now part of the records of the Executive Dept. Office of the Governor (RG#3) and are called ’Bounty Warrants’ if approved and ’Rejected Claims’ if disapproved. These records are housed in the Archives at the Library of Virginia.
