Southwest Music Parents Association
Home
Welcome to another musical school year at Southwest High School. We invite you, as the parent of a music student, to participate in your childs involvement in band, choir and/or orchestra.

For many years, Southwests Music Department has been fortunate that parents have volunteered to assist with its many activities. The Southwest Music Parents Association invites you to become a member, attend meetings and volunteer your time and talents.

Although the Green Bay School District provides funds for each school and its many activities, the Music Parents Association also helps financially support the Music Department and its wide variety of opportunities for students.

In the past, the Music Parents Association has organized numerous fund-raisers to provide additional funds for the schools music program. This year, the music teachers and Parents Association officers have decided to focus on our Note Campaign so that students can focus on their music and not on fund-raising.

The Music Parents Association is hopeful that its note campaign will generate enough funds to eliminate the need for other volunteer-intensive fundraisers. The Music Parents Association continues to work with the school and district to financially support upgrades to the auditoriums sound system. We also provide funds for other Music Department expenses not covered by the school or district budget.

Meetinng Minutes
Meetings: Meetings are held the second Thursday of every month (September through April) at 6:30 p.m. in the music theory/computer lab, with the exception of December and May, which are concert months. At least one member of the Southwest Music Department teaching staff attends all meetings.

Note campaign: At the beginning of each school year, the Southwest Music Parents Association seeks funding from parents and other community members for its note campaign. Donors are listed in music department programs during the year, unless the donor requests that his/her name be omitted.

Fund-raisers: When a major trip (out of state and multiple days) is planned, the Music Parents Association offers various opportunities for students to raise money to offset the cost of the trip.

Student accounts: The Music Parents Association offers each student the opportunity to participate in fund-raisers that directly support his/her music studies at Southwest High School, including major trips. Once raised, funds may be withdrawn (with music teacher approval) for the following purchases:
? Music trips
? Private music lessons
? Instrument repair
? Accompanist fee
? Music camps/clinics
? Music
? Instrument accessories
If a student has money in his/her account when he/she leaves the music program, withdraws from Southwest High School or graduates, he or she may:
? Spend the remaining money on a teacher-approved music-related item
? Request to have the money transferred to a siblings account
? Request to have the money donated to a specific cause in the Music Department (for example, Band, Show Choir, Orchestra, sound system, instrument purchases)
? Donate the money to the Music Parents general fund
Purpose/Mission: The purpose of the Music Parents Association is to provide funds and assistance to support the Southwest High School Music Department.
