Part V:Jesus, the Kingdom, and the Church
(Mt 13:54-19)

Upon returning to his hometown of Nazareth after traveling for so long, he was quickly rejected by his friends and the other townspeople, but he reminds them that all of the prophets had been rejected by their hometowns as well. It was also at this time that Herod (Antipas) killed John the Baptist, causing Jesus to withdraw to a boat, but was soon drawn out by his followers where Jesus multiples fish and bread to feed thousands of people. Afterward, Jesus walks on top of the water and is followed by Peter who quickly begins to sink and admits that Jesus is the Son of God. Again, the Pharisees begin to question Jesus multiple times, and, once again, are outwitted. After all the confrontations with the Pharisees and Sadducees, Jesus, for the first time, predicts his death and resurrection. Soon thereafter Jesus leads Peter, James, and John to a mountain where Jesus talks with Moses, Elijah, and, to a lesser extent, God. However, Jesus tells Peter, James, and John to not speak of the events upon the mountain. Before long, Jesus heals a boy with a demon, makes a second prediction of the Passion, teaches that the humble will enter the kingdom of God, and gives three more parables teaching forgiveness and how God looks after the least of his flock.
