Poetry from the 1970s by Gary Lookabaugh

During the late 1960s and early 1970s I had the opportunity and inspiration to write a number of poems. Previous to late 1970 my inspiration came from the general feeling of the times. The peace movement was well in swing as was the "summer of love." I was a young man with a purpose. Writing somehow just seemed like the thing to do. In October of 1970, I met a girl. Not just a girl but a girl who would prove to be a major influence in my life. Although to a much lesser degree, I still find myself considering her influence.

When I recently found these poems that I had written so many years ago, I was surprised what a strong feeling surfaced when I read them. Maybe this just proves that you always have love for your first love.
