Graphics Card/Sound Card/Modem
The above, cards are all connected to the motherboard, via
the slots, the sound and modem are connected through PCI (if there
modern), and the graphics card can be connected to an AGP slot
(advanced/accelerated graphics port) or PCI slot.
Sound cards, simply connect to the motherboard, the drivers
are installed, then connect you speakers to it. If you have a DVD
player, look for one with 'Dolby 5.1 decoding' or DTS decoding, both
of these allow you to experience the cinema effect. You'll need a
five speaker kit, with a separate sub woofer (5 speakers one sub
woofer-5.1). Connect it to the sound output from your CD drive.
Modems, connect through PCI, these are connected to the
phone line, and drivers need to be installed.
Graphics cards can be connected to the AGP slot (if you
have one) and run at different speeds. Options such as TV out are
available.
RAM
This is what your MB uses to store temporary data. RAM
comes in different forms, DIMM, SIMM, and the different types, RDRAM,
SDRAM, DDRAM, and comes in a number of speeds, 66, 100, 133MHz.
