STILL WATERS
He leads me beside the still waters. Psalm 23:2B
Did you know that sheep will not drink from a brook that is babbling? They will only drink from a quiet still pond. So if a shepherd wants his sheep to drink, he has to secure an area of a pond and make sure the flow is stilled, so the sheep will not be frightened. And they can drink deeply, and feel secure while doing it. How many of you are drinking deeply from that still water? Do you not know that Jesus has prepared a place for you? It is safe, quiet, and you can drink water that will quench your spiritual thirst. All you must do, is partake of it. Receive it. Open yourself to it. Walk a moment with Jesus. Imagine yourself on a journey, and you have become tired and thirsty. The journey has been long, and Jesus has made many stops along the way to minister to the crowds following Him. Surrounding Him daily with pleas for help, and for healing. Jesus took time for each of them, and He healed them all. Jesus did not have a time clock, He had a heart for the needs of His people. And as you watch Him minister to people you probably would not talk to, it is ministering to you. You see Jesus with His arms out, His eyes looking right into the soul of those speaking to Him, or pleading with Him. Jesus rests His hands upon their shoulders and says...PEACE BE STILL. I hear your cry, and I have the answer. Share your pain and anguish with ME, and let me lead you to a still quiet water, where you can find rest for your weary soul. Can you not hear that? He said PEACE BE STILL. He is calming the storm in your soul. The quiet whisper of a trusted friend, the enveloping courage coming from the King of Kings. The brush of angel wings touch you, as you feel His ministering angels telling you how very much God loves you. A QUIET PLACE. How our heart longs for one. To shut out the noise of the world. The endless bickerings, the wars, the sadness, the disease. Just to get away. Oh, how blessed that sounds.
And here we watch Jesus, busy, constantly, yet somehow refreshed. As we draw closer to the water Jesus tells us to come away for a while, we need to take time to refresh ourselves. To let the Holy Spirit flow through us, to refresh our spirits, to guide us, to offer us comfort. And to give us the gift of quiet. So we go out upon the boat. And some other ships follow us. And suddenly there arises a great storm of wind, and the waves roll and beat against the boat and the boat becomes full of water, and our hearts fill with fear. Jesus, however had fallen asleep in the back of the ship, and was finding time to refresh Himself. So we rush back to Him and say Master, do you want us to die? And Jesus rises up and stands calmly, and rebukes the wind, and the wind...is silenced. And there was a great calm. He spoke and it was so. It was that simple for Him, He stretched His hands out and spoke to the sea, and it obeyed. And Jesus tells us, why are you so fearful? How is it you don't have faith? And we sit and look at Him, the man who can even calm the seas. And out heart finds peace. Because we know the Master of our soul. He wants to provide us with still water. Come my friend, let Jesus minister to you. Refresh you, and whisper to your soul. The time for refreshing and rest has come. Receive it. And LET HIM rebuke the storms of your life, and you go back to the end of the boat and just rest. STILL WATERS. Jesus is watching over me, I can rest now. Can you hear that sweet voice? PEACE BE STILL. John 14:27
