My Unit Plan
Communities and Graphing
Overview:
I designed this unit plan to incorporate graphing and communities.  I wanted my lessons to focus on four different types of graphs: Venn Diagrams, Bar Graph, Pie Graph and Pictograph.  I will also be talking to students about how to read graphs, the key components of a graph, tally sheets and how to gather information or data. I made my lessons work around these graphs and each day I will talk about one of the graphs and have an activity that relates to the graphs and the topic of communities.  On the last day and final assessment, students will be gathering up their own data, and creating a graph by using one of the four graphs that we went over.

Rationale:

I really wanted my students to learn about a variety of graphs and how they can be used to find out information.  How to read graphs to gather information and learn how to design their own tally sheets to gather information on.  I wanted students to also be able to visually see how each graph looks and that is why I had my students be the graphs and creating human graphs.   I also really wanted to incorporate communities because I will be teaching this in the beginning of the year and it is important for students to get to know their school and the community that has developed.
