20 Amp Power Upgrade
Project - Most shore power pedestals have a 20 Amp power connection in addition to the 30 Amp or 50 Amp connectors usually used by RVs.  The addition of a male twist/lock connector to the side of my coach will allow me to power the washer/dryer, electric heater, etc.  on this 20 Amp circuit.  This leaves the full 30 Amps of power available through the standard shore power cable to power the microwave, air conditioner, hair dryer, water heater, etc.
A surface mount 125 V. 20 A. male twist/lock connector was acquired at the local  electric supply.  Also, a female twist/lock plug with the same voltage and amperage rating.
Next the male twist/lock surface mount connector was mounted into an RV shore power cover that had been removed from the coach when the shore power cord was upgraded to a removable Marinco connector.
A hole saw was used to cut a hole on the street side of the coach into a compartment that contains electric and water connections for the water heater and washer/dryer.  The shore power cover and male twist/lock  were installed using butyl tape and stainless steel screws. The 12/2 with ground Romex gets  routed inside the cabinet to the walls where outlets will be installed.
An outlet box was installed into the adjacent cabinet and a GFCI outlet was installed since it is in an area where water is used.  This outlet will be used for a curling iron, hairdryer or electric heater.   The right most  picture is of a surface mounted box added for the washer/dryer.
A 12/2 with ground, 25' exterior drop cord was modified using  the female twist/lock plug.  This plug mates with the male twist/lock installed on the exterior of the coach. The cord is then plugged into a 20Amp outlet on the power pedestal.
The exterior outlet is labeled for use on a properly fused 125 V. 20 Amp circuit.  The current installation does not include fusing for the circuit inside the coach.

When in campgrounds that have a 20 Amp circuit in the shore power pedestal, this modification has increased the power available to the coach from 30 Amps to 50 Amps.  The washer/dryer, electric space heater, or other high draw appliances can then be used along with the air conditioner, microwave, etc. without overloading the 30 Amp circuit and tripping breakers.
