This was a relatively major upgrade to the Mountaineer. We are going to fulltime in this unit and need a washer and dryer. After much measuring we decided to install a washer/dryer in the entertainment center area. This involved removing the TV and stereo with their connections and building a stable platform to support a 150 lb washing machine. The entertainment side of the cabinet would be enclosed with a flat panel TV attached which is connected to the DVD and Satellite Receiver that do not move from their original positions. The Washer/Dryer faces into the bathroom with easy access behind and above the toilet area.
An unvented Bendix Washer/Dryer (Splendide) was installed . Below is a sequence of pictures showing the transition. |

The black water vent had to be routed around the area where the washer/dryer would be mounted. The sides of the platform to hold the W/D were made with 3/4" plywood and 2 x 2 lumber which was glued, stapled and screwed together. The top of the platform wias covered with 3/4" plywood. |

The power, antenna, satellite and cable connections were relocated up into the DVD and Satellite Receiver area. The water and sewer connections were made via the bathroom cabinet next to the water heater. The drain ties into the sink drain and goes to the gray water tank. The finished and framed W/D installation in the bathroom is shown.. The Washer/Dryer does not interfere with the toilet. |

The back of the W/D as seen from the living room. Note the long, slim cabinet to the left which allows access to the water, power and drain connections mounted in a W/D box. The W/D is wired into the water heater power source with a wall switch to choose W/D or electric water heater The center picture is the panel to cover the entertainment area (back of W/D.) The framework on the back will hold the wall mounting plate for the flat panel TV. In the last picture you can see the flat panel TV in place, a new sony Surround Sound DVD system and the finished cabinet door on the left. |
