Review Questions: Chapter 6
1. Consider Andrew's upbringing and his life before he was drafted. Do you think he was well prepared to become a soldier? Was he better prepared for his later role in the priesthood? How might his time in Vietnam have helped him to be better at his chosen profession?
2. What is the significance of Private Warren's character? How is he different from most of the other soldiers that Andrew had known at that time? How might Andrew's encounter with the enemy have turned out differently if Warren had not been present?
3. Compare Andrew's experience in war to that of Officer Caldwell as described in Chapter 2. How are the two men's experiences similar? How are they different? What feature of their respective battlefield episodes would you say is most responsible for their differing reactions to these experiences?
4. What lessons have Andrew and Caldwell each taken away from their wartime service? How have these lessons seemed to affect them into the present day?
