Medium Strength Rotes, A-C
Back to the effects
Angel Form - Forces **, Life ***, Prime **
This interesting (and generally time-consuming) rote is primarily the province of the Celestial Chorus, although other magi might adapt it for use in their own paradigm. With it, a Chorister channels the power of their faith, transforming into a powerful angel to do battle with unholy creatures. The effect is nothing short of impressive, and many supernaturals who underestimated a Chorister have learned better, to their
chagrin.
System: Because all of an angel's traditional powers are created, the rote is at -2 difficulty (studying lore regarding the target). The Life effect allows the caster to soak aggravated damage, and creates wings with which they can glide (but not lift off). The Prime portion of the effect creates a glowing sword of energy that deals Aggravated damage, and the Forces portion causes the angel to glow faintly. The entire ritual requires three successes, and a point of Quintessance (for the sword). A Prime 3 varient allows the angel themselves to inflict aggravated damage, but the sword is much more traditional.
This rote is vulgar, unless a large number of true believers are on-site.
Animate Object - Matter **, Life **, Spirit ***, sometimes with Forces **
A favorite of the rare child mage, and of Sons of Ether, Animate Object brings an inanimate object to life, and gives it a very rudimentary personality that fits with its original purpose. Animated objects are not automatically loyal to the one who animated them, but may be friendly. They will likely be hostile to those who abused them, however, and their original function should be taken into account.
System: This is a fairly straightforward, although extremely vulgar, rote. Matter and Life allow the object to move independantly (although some objects may require Forces ** to move under their own steam), and Spirit *** awakens the objects. This rote typically requires a large number of successes for even the most basic object - ritual awakening is a must.
Atomize - Forces **, Matter ***
Originally designed by a Son of Ether for use against Technocracy machines, Atomize has become quite popular among Traditionalists who don't want to have a death toll on their consciences. By focusing a blast against only material objects, mages can easily destroy a Technocrat's weapons and armour without worrying that they might harm the human themselves.
System: Use the Forces chart for damage, but apply it only against any material objects that are the focus of the effect. Materials dissolve into light energy, so anyone too close to the blast point has a chance of being temporarily blinded by the effect. This is generally a vulgar effect, although it can be disguised by the proper foci. A little.
Call the Spirit - Correspondance **, Mind **, Spirit **
A new, but very effective, rote, Call the Spirit sends out a mental signal over a large area, one that can only be heard by those with the correct spirit. The caster sets up the rote, and then chooses a type of person or being (for example, men, vampires, Pattern Essences, or Virtual Adepts). Finally, they either speak a short message (never more than a sentance) or just send out an emotional cry. Everyone of the sort they chose, within the area, will hear/feel the message. Varients of the spell use Mind *** or **** to send a mental command, and/or actually tell the targets vaguely where the spell is being sent from.
System: Correspondance determines the area of effect (usually very large), while Mind and Spirit search through the area for beings that fit the requirements. People with mind shields up will usually not receive the message, as the spell isn't designed to punch through defenses. The effect is generally coincidental.
