    General information
The standing army consists of 60,000 men, which is intentionally as many as the Frilandic army has. The troop strength and number of units are also kept more or less equal to that of Friland. To remain a match for its larger neighbour, the size and costs of the Hiverian military are often higher than the country can actually afford. Because of this, the quality of men and material sometimes leaves much to be desired. There is conscription, but that can be bought off. The head of the military is the president.

    Neutrality
Hiveria is neutral and not a member of NATO. However, it is a member of the NATO Partnership for Peace. For military cooperation Hiveria mainly seeks connections with powerful countries like the United States, Russia and China. By outplaying these rivals against eachother the country is always assured of the support of at least one of them. However, this tactic has always stood in the way of a NATO membership. Besides that Hiveria has strong ties with France, Spain and a number of countries in the Middle East and North Africa.

    Land Forces

The land forces consist of two departments: the Armée de Terre (professional army and conscripts) and the Garde d'Acier (elite forces).

    Armée de Terre
The Armée de Terre ("Land army") is the professional army. Its most important task is being prepared for a potential war with Friland. Missions abroad also belong to the possibilities.

Main divisions of the Armée de Terre:
  • The 1st mechanised division of 20,000 men.
  • The 1st armoured division of 10,000 men.
  • The 1st airmobile brigade of 5,000 men.
  • Bataillon Aéromobile d'Afrique ("African Airmobile Battalion"), for the protection of Esrayette.
  • Service des Auxiliaires ("Department of Auxiliaries"), tasked with training conscripts and the supply of reserve material. The national reserve is also part of this department.
  • Service de l'Appui ("Department of Support"), this involves air defence, explosive ordnance disposal, material support, military engineering, education, medical care, military police, signal corps, etcetera.

    Garde d'Acier
The Garde d'Acier ("Steel Guard") originates from former colonial troops, who had much more fighting experience than the regular army due to the many revolts in the by now independent Hiverian colonies. During an attack the Garde d'Acier usually forms the spearhead and is responsible for weakening or even breaking any opposition that the main force could encounter.

Main divisions of the Garde d'Acier:
  • 1st armoured infantry brigade, consisting of 3,000 men.
  • 2nd armoured infantry brigade, consisting of 3,000 men.
