SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT
THE FREE GLOBE INITIATIVE (FREGI) SCHOLARSHIP.
FREE GLOBAL INITIATIVE is awarding Up to 30 scholarships (are expected to be awarded) in (the 2006/07) academic year. These scholarships are provided to perpetuate the objectives of the organisation and are funded by public. We strongly believe that no one should be refused access to education because s/he can not afford the cost.
The objectives of the scholarship scheme are as follows:

To alleviate poverty by promoting education in areas of deprivation

To enable intellectually distinguished young Africans, their country's future leaders, to study in the UK.

To motivate scholars to act as ambassadors from Africa to the UK.
-
To promote the personal and academic fulfilment of each scholar.

To contribute to the socio-economic development of Africa
The conditions for application and selection are listed below.
VALUE AND BENEFITS:
The scholarship will cover one or more of the following, depending on the needs of individual applicants

tuition fees,
-
living expenses,
-
some study expenses, and
-
fares to and from the UK., .
Up to 30 scholarships are expected to be awarded in 06/07 academic year.
Where a scholarship includes the payment of fees, this applies exclusively to tuition fees. Any additional fees charged (e.g. bench fees) are not normally covered. Tuition and Boarding fees are estimated to be �11,000. The minimum that we would offer will be 15% of this amount to successful applicants.

Scholarship deadlines are strictly adhered to. Applications arriving after published deadlines are excluded from the selection. Applicants should take into account the time need for mail sent from their home towns to arrive our office in Yaounde.

Selection

Successful candidates will have proven excellent academic records.

Be able to show a genuine financial need.

Hold an offer of admission to a course in Concepts College, and will have thoughtful and coherent educational and career plans.

Candidates are also evaluated on their extra-curricular interests and achievements, potential to achieve their goals and likelihood to succeed in a foreign academic environment. Work experience is also considered.

Preference will be given to candidates who display a potential to make a significant contribution to their own society. Selectors will also look for strong motivation and seriousness of purpose.
It is in the applicant's interest to complete the application forms and statements as neatly as possible to help the selection panel members in their assessment.

Notification of Scholarship Results
Short listed candidates will be called for interview in the week of 7-12 July 2006 and they will be informed of venue. The final selection will be announced shortly after interview, and those nominated for a scholarship will be offered a scholarship in writing, and will be asked to accept or decline this offer, also in writing within a 10-12 day period. FREGI Commission asks candidates to give a definitive and final response in this way, so that the Commission can at the earliest opportunity arrange the best and most appropriate graduate programme and living accommodation for each candidates needs.
