Don't Touch the Water

by Karen A. Freeman

Never touch the water of your own image;
       you will disturb the picture . . .
       the picture that reflects your soul.

Never touch the water of your own image;
       as the water ripples away,
       the inner you flees.

Never touch the water of your own image;
       as the image fades,
       so does your youth.

Never touch the water of your own image;
       in a splash . . .
       a demon steals your soul.

Never touch the water of your own image.
