Dialogue between myself and I when I was lost.
I: Which way is the hotel?
My: Well, I think it's that way. I know it's not the other
way.
I: Maybe I should go that way.
My: Okay. You're the boss.
I: It seems like we came from that direction so we'd better
turn here.
My: It sure is dark! Remember what you heard about muggers
around here?
I: Oh, no. Why did everyone leave without me? Mrs.
Kellstrom will kill me if she sees me coming back
alone . . . if I get back.
My: I don't remember this street.
I: Neither do I, but I've never been lost.
My: I think you might be now.
I: Not if I find my way back.
My: I hear footsteps behind us.
I: How many?
My: Just one person.
I: Muggers are the only people in their right minds who
would be out by themselves after dark. Look at everyone
else. They're in pairs. And they're college students .
. . And teachers! I'm just a high school student.
What an easy target for a mugger!
My: You'd better hurry up. We should have been back by now
There's a phone booth! Maybe there's a map for our
hotel. Besides a mugger wouldn't attack someone in a
phone booth. Shouldn't we run? The footsteps sound
closer!
I: No. I won't run. I won't turn around. I'll just keep
walking. Here we are. Look, it's just an old lady.
My: Don't bug me.
I: No map.
My: Now we are in trouble. We better get back to the
student union and start over again.
I: No! Let's see. It seems like we should have passed the
hotel by now. Let's go down this street and see if the
hotel is over a block.
My: It won't be there.
I: Doesn't that stadium look big? See those lights? This
time I'll run.
My: Oh brother. Right across the street.
I: Not bad. Aren't I a genius? All we have to do now is
get in without getting caught.
