On the prison women
and "Woman is the Word"

  • Midge DeLuca, one of the three women profiled in the film, has been ordered to return to prison after her release in July.
        An appeals court initially
        ruled that she was eligible
        for early release, but the
Supreme Court reversed that          decision last month.  As a
        result, DeLuca's former seven
        year sentence was
        reinstated.

        DeLuca had become an
        advocate for breast cancer
        awareness and started a
        program called "Women for
        Women" to teach prisoners
        about their rights.

        Read The Trenton Times'
        coverage from Nov. 19.

  • DeLuca was featured on the cover of the "Living" section of The Trenton Times on Oct. 5. At the time, she was free from prison, having been given an early release.
          The article details
        DeLuca's crime, her
        struggles in prison and
        with breast cancer, and
        how she changed into a
        woman committed to
        serving others as a result.
